Liège is the biggest city of Wallonia, with a very long history. It also holds a nice Christmas market, essentially focused on good food and some things to buy, but unlike in many such markets, very few of those things are manufactured in China.
Miss Whatagain being kicked out if school, like all belgian students, her father decided to visit the market with her.

The market is on place Saint Lambert, and along this place some old building are found. Just right of above, continuation of the old palace, taken from tbe place. Close up. I guess by now you got it that i love old stones. In front of above. There has been quite a lot of money in Liège. Food or drink stands. Echoppes in french. There was a high wheel. Some houses are old, some are small. This one is small and looks old, but tall. The palace lit in the dark. The wheel. They took me there...

Food ! I bought one 3 years ago. Caramelised ham. Delicious. Salmon. For a next time. We had a tartiflette.

I love these pictures, Whatagain! I even found myself wishing I were there, even if it is cold.
What are the two openwork metal towers in front of the big wheel? Incidentally, that's a ferris wheel in English. What is it in French?
For the guessing game: I am pretty sure that is little Marie on the right, the one in the middle is the in-law, & the young woman in the white jacket is your niece. What do I win?
I swear I can smell the ham in the photo. I would want to buy a whole one to take home and then I'd go to the other stand and stuff myself with salmon.

A ferris wheel is called grande roue, or big wheel in French, Bixa.

I like your term "high wheel." I think I’ll use that name in the future.
Little Marie looks to be at a very fun age.

Marie is a ray of sun. But yes, she is fun, tongue in cheek, master in irony and cracks a lit if jokes and wordplay.

Liège was the very last trip I had planned before lockdown in March 2020, so I am happy to see these photos. I have driven through Liège a few times without stopping, so that doesn't count.

Fun times Whatagain - lovely family photo too. I would have had a hard time choosing ...but that ham does look so good. I was not really sure where Liege was ( apart from Belgium) so had a google. Is that the area you live in Whatagain?

In Paris, Liège benefited from the Great War because the metro station Berlin (and the nearby street) was given the name Liège on December 1, 1914. I kind of feel sorry for Germany now since it is the #1 ally and partner of France, but there are still very few places with German names in France. You reap what you sow, I guess.
