I was watching a programme on Mark Rothko last night which included a number of shots of other painters of that genre together at parties and so on. It was based in the 40’s/50’s.
Despite that these were breaking the mould at that time, all the men were dressed identically in suits, shirts and ties.

Interesting observation Mick.
In high school, I was friendly with Willem DeKooning's daughter Lisa. I never saw him ever dressed in anything but white coveralls splattered with paint.
Unlikely that Jackson Pollack wore a suit and tie and would be a rare spectacle as well.

When I was working, Bella Freud, daughter of Lucian Freud was one of my clients.
I never met him but she had a picture of him at work on her wall and when he was working he would wear torn up old bed sheets that he tied round his middle and there was a huge pile of old paint spattered sheets in the corner of his studio.

That's funny Mick.
Were you able to procure a Lucian Freud piece during your time working in that field?

Would that I could!
At that time she was married to James Fox who wrote Keith Richards autobiography. A very interesting nice guy.
