Full moons always make the monkey's vampire teeth grow longer.
Parrots must not have any natural predators since they don't seem to do much in the way of camouflage.

I wouldn't want to mess with that monkey.
Fabulous pic of another parrot.
But my favorite is the shot of the ocean. Is that building the place where you are staying?
My first thought about handling the "negotiations" was, "oh, Mrs. M will handle that just fine".

The building is the view from part of our restaurant but not our place. Different hotel. Progress has been made in that we have it in writing that our lesser room is gratis/free. We just need to make sure no money will be taken out for our 'no show'. I'm sure that will be sorted before we leave. And yes, she will arrange it to our benefit I'm sure.

Change of place and pace. Out in the country - To our own little plunge pool in the city -

Mark - Forgive me but why do you feel so safe? Is it because you have British and German passports, so in a bad case of abduction your embassy will help? Yes, I know you are not likely to be held in a cell but imagine if you would my circumstances. No one in hell could help a South African accused of a mis demeanour although innocent.

Tod -- I have heard so much about carjacking, etc in South Africa, I am surprised that you think Mark shouldn't feel safe in Colombia. I never felt unsafe when we went in 2009. The worst period was the 1990s when there were lots of kidnappings, but they mostly aimed at locals -- first the rich, then anybody at all.

Colombia has improved a lot since the bad years and I know that Medellin has completely transformed itself since those times.

But I have been wondering when you splash water out of the small pool, where does it fall? Onto a lower balcony, into the street or in a garden?

My sick imagination went into the direction of Mark landing on the balcony below stark naked. (did I really just post that?)

Casi, when I jump in it, all the water jumps out - into a yard next door. And we have been using it naked. Scares the pigeons no end.
Tod, as mentioned, Colombia is a lot safer than it used to be. I first went twenty years ago and it was reasonably safe then. It has improved over time to now when the problems you'd tend to encounter are the normal tourist type thefts and areas in cities you don't go to after dark. I'm not up to date on exactly where in the country is the most dangerous but it'd not tend to be a place we would go anyway. Also, in every country, there is the perception of locals and visitors as to what is a dangerous area and what not. They can be the same or different and I'm sure that even though I've been where you live, there are places you would go that I'd be unsure of and vice versa.
Also, "dangerous" is a subjective emotion to each individual. I am more cautious when Mrs M is with me than alone, mainly because of what I have to lose should anything happen to her. Lastly, there is another perception, that of the robber or whatever - i.e. how easy a victim are you. I am a lot easier when Mrs M is with me as threats against her could/can be used against me. Alone is, as said, different. I don't think I look like a victim when I'm moving around alone, nor do I think a robber would feel I'd be an easy mark, if you excuse the pun. I'm not a kidnapper/robber, so can't say for sure, it's just a thought.

We're now in a place where I've been before, but I wanted to see more about this man - And make a note of lots of this type of stuff that is prevalent here -

Finally seeing all the latest installments. I add my compliments to all the others on your not only beautiful, but informative pictures. That shot of the lagoon with the sea beyond -- glorious! All of the wildlife pictures are great except that one of the monkey -- yikes! I don't like monkeys anyway, & that is the stuff of nightmares. Absolutely love that last picture -- the nobility of work celebrated in an unexpected place. And the color of that house puts the Mexican idea of color in the shade!

The next escalation would then be me bringing a monkey to your house. When you were out. And letting it loose inside.

Our consuegros dragged us to visit Bolivar's finca in Santa Marta. Can't say it's the kind of thing I would choose to visit, but as I have certainly said elsewhere, I'm a lousy tourist as far as monuments of various kinds go.

The next escalation would then be me bringing a monkey to your house. When you were out. And letting it loose inside. That happened to one of my guests just the other day - He left all his windows open and went to work. When he opened the door later, a scene of carnage! Broken raw eggs, bread and foodstuffs scattered around. I had no staff working after 5pm, so he was given a bucket and mop. we have troupes of Vervet monkeys passing through several days a week. they are very wily and hard to chase off even with the "monkey gun" and a few of my little Black Spider crackers that make a devil of a noise. Bjd - In the last few years the number of car-jackings has dropped. I can remember a time when I would drive slightly past my house and check if anyone was loitering before reversing and opening the automatic gate and driving in. It was a favourite way of car-jacking while one waited for the gate to open. The crime rate is still incredibly high. Hold-ups in shops and businesses happens regularly and has taken place near my business. They don't even bother to wear masks to hide their identity from the surveillance cameras. Yes, it sounds like Colombia is only dangerous at the top...drug dealers and political figures.

I didn't know you had a fear of monkeys Bixa. Pithecophobia. My good friend told me that when she was a little girl and went to see The Wizard of Oz she had to be carried out of the theatre screaming when the scene with the monkeys appeared.

Thanks Cheery. We'll see how it deteriorates when I post the full length stuff. Monkeys are more scary than clowns. Bixa is evil. Last two for here for now because we are moving on - Alfred Hitchcock was 'ere -

Excellent black bird. I know how some of our members will react to the idea of buying 'cute' bags and will prevent myself from commenting.

There is a word for it! Maybe my real-world first name predisposed me to pithecophobia, but honestly, they are creepy little creatures. Except for humans, the other primates don't ick me out the way monkeys do. Yes, Mark ~ evil & proud of it. Incredible bird picture! Looking closely, I see that most of the bags in the photo are of wool. Am I correct? I imagine some of the sherbet-y colors are a result of the availability of modern dies & materials, plus a desire to woo the tourist trade. But I'm wondering about original designs & uses for the weaving there. Any idea?

I'm afraid my vast store of useless information cannot answer your two questions. Any idea? No, no idea - yet. When I return I can look into it. Are they wool? Good question. Maybe. Have they got an engine? No. Thus my immediate interest does tend to fall short, but I'm always willing to learn about stuff.

Oh well said Bixa!
Mark I love those bright intricately woven baskets and bags. Bixa is probably correct thinking they are made of wool and I suppose the odd reed.

All the woven bags I saw in Colombia were made of wool. I don't mind that traditional weavings adapt to new dyes and colours. After all, they make this stuff to sell to tourists and a few locals.
