Actually Kerouac that is a key question a lot of military brass ask themselves. In a high intensity conflict, is it better to have some highly sophisticated materials used by professionals or a lot of solid easy to use simple, cheaper, but more vulnerable equipment used by a lot of untrained conscripts.

More asidz, but Armenia announced they could withdraw from the military treaty between former soviet republics. They didn't like that Russia didn't help when Azeris attacked them and their rather neutral position since. It would be a major blow for Putin's diplomacy.

I don't think Putin understands the meaning of the word "diplomacy."

He’s determined to drive Russia into the ground from which it will take many years to recover, I don't agree that Putin is determined to drive Russia into the ground. On the contrary, he thinks Russia is still a major world power and that it should get even more powerful by interfering in so many places like Ukraine, various African countries, Syria as well as friendships with China and India. he is completely deluded, of course, and his actions in Ukraine are making his country weaker. On the plus side for Putin, there are lots of countries that sympathize with Russia because they don't like the Western powers.

I'll wait until something actually happens to Putin. Remember all those "Putin's face is puffy, he is really sick" when the Ukraine war started?
Furthermore, Prigozhin's is not the only militia in Russia. I heard on the news that there are lots of different ones, starting with Gazprom's which originally was intended to protect their gas and oil installations. They are probably all quite far-right though.

Russia seems prepared to stop at nothing in order to damage Ukraine for as long as possible. Mining the dam and blowing it up, flooding villages and agricultural land with water, chemicals and killing animals and other wildlife. The Russians don't even care about the villages and people under their control or about the canal that brought water for drinking and irrigation into Crimea. A scorched earth policy mixed with complete indifference even to their own people.

Or as my newspaper called it this morning "a drowned earth" policy.
From what I have read, though, they don't seem to have thought this through (just like everything else they do) -- apparently the Russian occupied side of the river has suffered far more than the side under Ukrainian control.

The flow of water can't be stopped. AIUI, all they can do is wait for the water to drain away and find its natural level as a river (I gather from last night's news that it's passed its peak) and see what options there are. Presumably major reconstruction is out of the question while the area's being fought over. There'll be enough trouble dealing with the assorted messes/damage caused, displaced people (and mines!), agricultural land swamped or deprived of irrigation, and so on. Just horrible. And of course there is all of the oil and fertilizer pollution on top of all of the rest.
Blowing up the dam was not the best idea ever.

There's a guy on youtube that does a fairly good round up of each day in Ukraine. He seems to check his sources quite well though a pinch of salt is always a thought. He talks about the dam and it's cause and effects. Maybe best use the subtitles option as his accent is a bit heavy if you want to see it.

In 1914 Belgian troops opened the gates to let the water of the Yser flood the area. Effectively helping stop the German advance. Now CNN also indicates possible prior damage during reoccupatuon of Kherson area - due to fighting. Then Mother Nature did her job helped by a very high level of water.

Putin calls it a Fatherland, Prigozhin calls it a Motherland.
They’re getting confused.

Interesting theory that this could be a false flag operation to allow Russia to withdraw from Ukraine. Can’t see it myself.

Yevgeny Prigozhin needs to stay away from upper floor windows and not accept any free drinks in Belarus.

Hundreds of land mines laid by the Russians have been washed from the dam into the rivers and are appearing on the Black Sea Beaches. As if there wasn't enough grief!

"Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin was on the passenger list of a jet which crashed killing all on board, Russia's civil aviation authority has said. Earlier, Wagner-linked Telegram channel Grey Zone reported the Embraer aircraft was shot down by air defences in the Tver region, north of Moscow." www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-66599733
