Whatagain at Montaigle.

Montaigle is an old ruins in the valley of the Molignee. That you can cross on foot.

There is - was ?- a project to rebuild some butvi didn't see progress made since my last vist, decades ago.

Thexarea is splendid, with old charming houses made of stone.

Here i fiund myself in a small village and took a pic of these huge farms, made of stone. 
We Belgians like to build to last. 

Another small farm, turned into something like a manor. 
Peivate owned, i could not get closer. 

I had just passed a small hamlet.

Chateau de Falaën. Notcsure how to pronounce... fallahenne ? 

A recent house, but using old materials. 

An older house, very typical. It really seems quiet all around. 

Of course some houses have no charm. Like this one, that belonged to my granfather. It was funny to follow my instincts and to find it after all those years...

Somecruins look quite romantic. I wish my wife was there.

What about picknicking ? 

Not far, a small house... the region is fill of such big houses !
Why didn't Granddad live there?

Did you visit that house of your grandfather's when you were a child?

All of these areas have been through so many wars that it is remarkable that so much is still standing. Of course there is no problem understanding why people remain very attached to the area.

Ues Bixa, i knew every inch of that house !
My brother and i spent some holidays there when my patents were in trip etc.
Unfortunately he died when i was 12.

I love old ruins and yesterday was watching the documentary on how castles first came into fashion/construction . So when I saw your ruined castle Montaigle, I Googled it. There is a re-construction image of it on Google.

"Montaigle Castle is a ruined medieval castle in Falaën in the municipality of Onhaye, province of Namur, Wallonia. It was built in the 14th century, and destroyed by Henry II of France in 1554. It stands on a rocky spur overlooking the valleys of the Molignée and of the Flavion."

Impressive ruins. In Italy, largely due to the vagaries of Italian inheritance law, if you are hiking you'll see a lot of abandoned buildings out in the country but rarely anything so grand.

I really have little knowledge about Belgium although it was my first journey abroad - a school trip when I was approx 9 years old to Blankenburge. Anyway I enjoyed seeing a little more in this interesting report. Is it an area you know well? I guess so seeing how you found your grandfathers house by instinct ??

Little Miss Whatagain is getting so tall. She looks like a fun kid -- graceful, too.

The church at the end is almost a shock, it looks so new compared to the castle ruins. I would absolutely love to go all over that ruin. The second pictures looks as though it could be in the jungles of Cambodia!
