And to round off today, one shot of Puebla to hopefully whet the appetite -

You got to see the real dry season on that drive! The shot of the little chapel on the top of the rocks is great.
I'm pretty sure that kind of green sauce is mostly some kind of green chile -- probably serrano -- and cilantro. Nice looking meal. The beans look particularly good.
And ahhh, Puebla! It's so pretty that I always forget how very pretty it is. I love that church, which is not only a lacy extravaganza outside, but OTT inside, too.

Puebla looks pretty nice. And colourful, like everything else in Mexico. I'm surprised to see people still wearing masks.

I really liked Puebla. Although I have extremely limited experience in Mexico, it seemed to be the nicest city I have visited in Mexico.

Mark, I so much admire how much you manage to show in this overview travelogue without every belaboring a subject.
You certainly did a great job on Puebla, which begs to be photographed at every turn. I've been there three times & your pictures make me want to go again. I love how you caught so much of the iconic aspects of the city ~ the number of churches (including the very very big cathedral), the fancy wedding & quinceañera dress shops, the chicks which demonstrate that the city is a hub for its rural population too, Puebla's love of sweets, and that super last photo which sums up the vivacity of the place.
There is a railroad museum in Puebla? I didn't know & would love to see it. Any idea who is depicted in the statue of the lady with the animals?
Anyway, much respect & appreciation for including us and producing this report while on the move.

Great pics Mark!!
Thank you for sharing them with us.
Puebla looks to be a beautiful place. (I loved all the various bakeries that I visited on Oaxaca. Everything was always very fresh)
Both you and Steven proved to be an intrepid team.

bjd, there is a lot of mask wearing still. Some places you can go in to but won't serve you if you don't have a mask on. K2, yes, I like it. Fourth largest city in Mexico but doesn't feel like it in the centre. Bixa, there is also a car museum but didn't go there. The woman statue had a thing down by its feet but didn't have a name on it. At home I'll put together a few more photos out of the many taken just to expand it further. Casi, the bakeries are a killer. I'd be like the Michelin man if I lived here. Steven is still around but been a bit quiet recently. He's actually quite shy. He's given me permission though to show him eating two sets of deserts in Oaxaca.

How I would love to explore Pueblo after seeing your photos Mark, and, not just for the delicious looking pastries.

Seeing the Puebla photos sent me looking for this thread to revisit and I'm glad I did! There's even a seafood cocktail featured! I spent an hour and a half looking at that thread and I'm still a little dizzied by the sheer force of all the images.

Fumo, I'll look through all that later. Not much time at the moment. No doubt there may well be quite a lot of duplication when I get round to posting mine.

I've lost track of how many times I've looked at your Teotihuacan pictures, Mark. I know I sound like a total rube, but I had no idea it was that immense. And as Lugg pointed out, your photos really give an excellent idea of the scale.
Did you know about the balloons beforehand, or was that a lucky convergence of event & your route?
Tajin manages to look dinky after Teotihuacan, but it is quite impressive & beautiful.
Are you somewhere on the coast of Veracruz now, heading to the port of Veracruz?

It was cold. Very cold. The room in the hotel was as cold as a politician's heart. I went to bed very early to try and keep warm, thus woke up early. I decided the heater in the car would be a better idea than trying to stay in bed, so as soon as the sun came up I was out of there. My route back to a main road was quickest if I cut through the football pitch. As I did so I was greeted by the balloons. Complete coincidence. Had I turned the car the other way I wouldn't have seen them. I have more views of them another time.
I liked Tajin. Seemed a more personal experience. Plus it was warm and green. That helped. I'm now just leaving Poza Rica. It was just somewhere handy to stay near El Tajin = and yes, next stop is Veracruz later today.

All these delightful surprise pics Mark (and Steven...)!! Seeing it through your eyes is so refreshing and different a take on the culture and other aspects which we haven't seen ever before in all the other Mexico reports. Especially in such a short period of time being there.
It was cold there where we were!! We would awaken early and see the work force en route to their jobs all bundled up. Slept with 3 layers of clothing on. The one Saturday that we were there it was a record low. It did warm up as the day wore on. I can understand how inviting a warmer and more verdant environment was in order.
Thank you both once again for sharing your journey with us.

Hey there! It’s been a long time. I stopped by because I’m flying to Mexico City tomorrow and wanted to check out the Mexico threads. It’s gonna take some time, though, to catch up on all the adventures I missed over the years.
Looks like you’re having an amazing time. Puebla looks so beautifully colorful, I wish I had time to go. Maybe next time. I am going to Teotihuacan, though. Hope I can get some pictures half as good as yours.
Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Not a lot happened today other than a drive from Poza Rica to Veracruz. Couldn't stop anywhere though as I seemed to end up on a motorway with only one exit for a couple of hundred kilometres. Bloody good job I did my usual thing and fill up with petrol either as I arrive at a place at the end of the day or first thing in the morning as I set off. The route took me along the coast and I saw a few things to photograph but far too dangerous to try and pull over. You'll have to make do with near the end the motorway did end so I took a photo of a hill and a fruit tree - It's been windy most of the day and now in the town there are up to 70km/h gusts and cloudy with a little rain. Watching the news in a café I saw reports of trucks being blown over etc. Not good.

That sounds alarming, drive safe! I’m enjoying your boots-on-the-ground reporting.
We’re going to Mexico City for 5 days, and we’re also doing day trips to Teotihuacan and a monarch butterfly sanctuary. It’s peak migration season right now, so I’m very excited.
Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. My family and I are doing great. My daughter is almost 8 now, which I can hardly believe. Maybe I can report back if I can remember how to post pictures, haha.
