Enghien is a municipality in Belgium, Hainaut, very close to the linguistic border. Ut seems the name Enghien was transferred to France. Henry IV was at a time owner of the domain. The first castle was built in XIe century. Nothing left. Anithef one in XIII century. Nit much left thanks to tbd french revolutionaries who roamed the region. The domain is sold in XIXe century to family Empain who built a castle un early XX century. It is now open to public. A gardening fair was our reason to go there today.

The main facade of the castle of Empain. Events can be organised. We went there fir a wedding party more than 30 years ago. I find the rear facade more, well less ugly. Some rooms are beautiful. Well at least i like when covered in wood. We say 'lambrisse' in french. The chapel. Only remnant of the castle of Xiii century. Only the base dates from XIII. The bricks date from XV. this enormous building is the farm. It was clearly used for cows or horses. The interior is beautiful - unfortunately my battery was dead. I like this entrance. There were Mexicans from Oaxaca, so i wanted to take the pic for Bixa. They were selling junk jewels and asked me not take pics. Not very friendly. Helped me to skip it.

I don't know about the Belgium Enghien, but the Enghien in the suburbs of Paris is one of the city names that anglophones find unpronounceable.
