The standard of women’s sport in what are traditionally men’s sports is remarkable. Personally I don’t like women’s football but cricket and rugby are excellent. I’m just watching England v France and the intensity and physicality is indistinguishable from the men’s game.

France was hoping for a grand slam for the six nations tournament, but England is clearly going to deprive them of it.

We went out for a walk and met a friend who was so pissed off after watching the first 20 minutes of that game that he went out for a walk. I guess he'll be upset when he gets home to discover that the French didn't do too badly afterwards, even if they lost.

The major event of the week in France was not in women's sports but in mixed sports and the fact that South African Kirsten Neuschäfer became to first woman to win one of the toughest sailing races in the world -- the Golden Globe. It does not attract many modern sailors because modern navigation devices are not allowed. It is all done with marine maps and a sextant. It is a non stop solo race around the world with no assistance. There were sixteen competitors this time and only three of them arrived. The winner was at sea since September and completed the race in 235 days. She is not only the first woman to win this particular race but also the first woman to win ANY of the round the world races. Time for the men to move aside...

Nearly 60,000 watched the England France game. Amazing.
