Langres is well known in France as it is often cited in the weather programs, being quite often the coldest spot in France. It is also an under touristic radar small beautiful town. the population is roughly 10 000 but was nearly that size in middle age and even before. It housed a military garrison and has retained most of its walls.
a particularity was that inside their walls the city had a inner walled city ruled by the monks (chanoine in this case but I don’t even know the definition in French despite reading it several times).
normally it is the place where the highway 31 gives way to A5 on our way home but due to major traffic jams we decided to stop there to overnight.

The cathedral or church is quite beautiful. the difference in colour is due to the sunset. Old buildings featuring some imbedded statues. The square in front of the church. They could build massive building back then. Inside the church a concert was held. Formerly the cloister now a library. The next morning a view on the typical burgundy’s roofs with their exquisite tiles. If you pay attention you ll see in the middle of the street that damn pole that assaulted me in the dark. A typical street. A bit derelict, sure sign of being non touristy. One of the 2 main squares. This kiosk is just beautiful Main Street. The first shop is a second hand clothes shop. Our b&b. Lovely owners. The house was the house of a priest then the tax preceptor. The stairs to our room dates back to the early 1400. View from the back. We had our breakfast in the verandah.

Langres is definitely one of the most maligned cities in France, but you have done it justice at last.

I knew Langres was somewhere in the northeast but I had to look it up on a map. That's not Burgundy any more, is it? I'm surprised by the tiled roof.
"Most maligned"? I think it's not on many people's radar at all. But I'm pleased to see these photos -- they make the place look pretty nice and with lots of fancy buildings for such a small population.

chanoine in this case but I don’t even know the definition in French despite reading it several times dictionnaire.lerobert.com/definition/chanoineEnglish definition of chanoine is canon: a clergyman belonging to the chapter or the staff of a cathedral or collegiate church Merriam-WebsterMore elaborate description in French ~ dictionnaire.lerobert.com/definition/chanoineBeautiful city & pictures, Whatagain. (why are you using your old name here?) That square in front of the church is surprising, something you'd expect to find as a park in a small town. So right that the tiles are exquisite! And in the photo below them, I see the pole that attacked you.
