An absolutely charming village of fishermen on the Med. a beautiful bay. A fortress. All that became forgotten and this village turned to global attention by the jetsetters who decided to make of this village the town of the ones who want to be seen. Brigitte Bardot was among the first and you can still meet Brad Pitt (very disagreeable according to the locals) and a lot of stars or starlettes. Less Russians since 2 years. Here a few pics of that nice place in may so not yet overcrowded by tourists.

A panorama of one side of the bay taken from the fortress. Veering towards the village a view above the cemetery. The other side of the bay with the village and the port. The fortress was not to be taken easily. The entrance. Going down towards the town. Going through small alleys.

The church. More beautiful with Mrs Whatagain in front. A small peaceful square. The bar de la ponche opened a few days before by a friend of our daughter. Old stairs. All bigger streets are just shops after shops. Some imposant buildings. The port Some nice ships. Some just big. The cafe de Paris

The streets are often terraces for the restaurants. A lot of art galleries too. La place des lys. Central square.

I know a woman who has had an apartment in St Tropez for many years. A few years ago she complained about the noise of helicopters bringing people from Nice airport. She claimed they felt they were too important and in too much of a hurry to come by car.
I guess it does look nice in May but it's just not the sort of place I would go on vacation. Although the surroundings look fine.

Great pictures, Whatagain. Especially the first ones show the essential beauty of the place ... and then you show what happens when beautiful places get entirely discovered and taken over. Glad you all got to enjoy it before the season when it gets mobbed.
