No, the 65 disappeared completely. This was particularly traumatic for me since it passed right in front of my flat. But now that I have the 38 (as well as the 35 and the 60), I feel pretty well compensated even though the route isn't at all the same. I liked my direct trip on the 65 to Répubique, but now that I have direct trips on the 38 to Châtelet, Luxembourg and Porte d'Orléans, it's not bad.

I'm disappointed about the 65 but it was just a back up in case we could not take the RER D to Gare du Nord for some reason. So, there is always a taxi to help out if things don't work out. My biggest worry is getting to Gare du Nord on time for connections with RER B for the airport and before that the Eurostar. I see there is advice to set off at least 1hr20 before departure time (from The Man in Seat 61). I like to be way ahead of check in time and always set off earlier than warranted. My memory goes back to 2000 when my mother and I got caught up in the Nurses strike/march through the streets and our taxi told us to head straight for the metro. I think this was at Chatelet. Those long passages were terrible as we walked as fast as possible for my mom and got to Eurostar in time thankfully. We collapsed into our seats gasping for breath. Not to be repeated I hope!

I am unsure whether we should be wary of travelling to Gare du Nord during the period between 7am -10am.. on a Tuesday? Are the RER's that crowded ? specifically the RER D. This is just for the Eurostar.

I feel a sense of relief now that I have secured our Eurostar tickets. I saw cheaper options to what we finally paid but the timing was out. On Tuesday departing at 11.12am , we paid 64euros each and for the return on Sunday 29th departing at 15.31 in the afternoon cost 84euros each. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either.
I wasn't going to book train tickets to Portsmouth and back but there are some good cheap prices from Victoria station. Pitching up at the station might land us having to pay very expensive seats..... dunno. Never just winged it before.

Since full fare on the Eurostar is well over 100 euros, your fares are perfectly fine.
Taking the RER to Gare du Nord in the morning is not a problem. Obviously, between 8 and 9, there will be more people on weekdays.

Thank you so much for your reply Kerouac. As our Eurostar departs at 11.12am we should be OK taking a 9.15 RER (7-8min travel time) to Gare de Nord, giving us just over an hour to check in.

Oh crikey! what a lot of debating the times and linking up on the UK side for yet another train to Portsmouth. Then the sudden thought occurred about France time and UK time, plus the length of time it takes for the actual journey. After hours on my computer we have decided TODAY we are booking tickets as the price is as low as 8.28euros - 7 pounds sterling each, there and the same back.. We are totally confused about the "Advance, Off Peak, or Anytime tickets" Sticking to one train company or able to change trains....even though I've read through the explanation several times. Wish me luck.....

Advance: a limited number of cheapest fares, and you're committed to the specific departure you book. Anytime: as the name implies, maximum flexibility but also the highest price Offpeak: some discount for travelling out of peak hours, and usually for any train then. The NationalRail website will show you the fare options for each train, and link you through to the operator you'd be travelling with, but you can use any train operator to buy the tickets, not necessarily the operator you'd be travelling with.
