Totally missed seeing your wonderful picture of those early birds, Mossie. Sprekelia formosissima, aka Aztec lily; Jacobean lily ~

Thanks, Tod. I was so happy to see it bloom again. It got moved around too many times, but seems to like where it is now.

What a fabulous sight! I've never seen those tree blooms here. Would be nice to get some seeds... If you head Paris way before September I could get them from K. Otherwise another time.

Tod, those are not my trees -- they're street trees. However, if I see a chance to snag some seeds for you, I will. In my patio today. The agapanthus finally opened & is putting on its deep blue show. I've had the amaryllis for over 15 years and it's decided to mutate this year to give me some variety. Surprising, but nice ~

Bixa, what a gorgeous deep blue. I gave up on agapanthus, and you can get them to bloom with one hand tied behind your back.
Seeing the light through your amaryllis is such a pleasure on a wintry day here.

Thanks so much, ladies! Tod, keep an eye out for "Black Pantha' agapanthus, which is the one I have -- much deeper blue than the common one & the flowers last well. Always so kind, Breeze ~ . I can't take any credit for the agapanthus as they grow like mad here -- huge bunches are sold as cut flowers, even.

I love agapanthus too but have never managed to get them to grow here. I have now put some in the new garden near the coast and am hoping for better luck. My daughter and her husband bought a house a year and a half ago, there are tons of agapanthus there but not blooming because they are crammed so close together. I have taken some and separated them so am hoping they will bloom. They are probably not Bixa's dark blue though -- I will be happy with any blue at all.

They are sure to grow even though it may take a year or two for them to start spreading their very thick and clumpy roots. Very good soil holders!

My garden is getting overrun by these autumn crocuses, otherwise known as "naked ladies", Easier to see closer up Also these flowers which I don't recognise A walk across the heath shows the gorse is feeling it must be spring and a pair of blackbirds were busily looking at prospective nesting material and sites

I think the ones you don't recognise are hellebores or Lenten Rose. Crocuses are such a welcome sign of spring on the way, though. The parks and churchyards around my way have suddenly come alive. My blog | My photos | My video clips"too literate to be spam"

Beautiful Spring surprises there in your garden, Mossie. Also, I greatly appreciated that photo of the blackbird, whose gorgeous song I heard for the first time this past summer. Smug as I am about not having true cruel winter, when a friend in North Carolina was describing this year's early Spring to me on the phone the other day, I remembered how lovely that season can be. Anyway, here's what's blooming here, as it does all year round ~

Lovely bougies bixa. All I have blooming are snowdrops in slushy snow. Spring seems like a fairy tale.

Wonderful photos!! We have lots around here too. Last year it was growing over a large pergola where someone parked their car underneath. Sadly when I went past again the whole thing had collapsed from the weight I guess or maybe the wooden structure had seen better days.
My mother once told me she won a flower arrangement competition with long sprigs of the flowers.
