2828. this constant fear of getting on people's nerves with my questions and insecurities - and yet constantly stumbling upon things i need help with, so i need to ask more. (and also the fact that at least at times my annoying follow up questions are caused by imprecise information, though)

2828. this constant fear of getting on people's nerves with my questions and insecurities - and yet constantly stumbling upon things i need help with, so i need to ask more. (and also the fact that at least at times my annoying follow up questions are caused by imprecise information, though) I can totally relate to what you are referring to Rikita. I am hypersensitive to criticism most especially when I am trying to learn something and people lose patience with me. I am much better about it than I was before but the fear remains.

usually i try not to let it get to me, but often it does, anyway. at work, too, feels like i am the one asking the most questions, because i always want to be sure, rather than just doing what i think might be right ...
but anyway, i am wondering what others think about the issue that brought this on, yesterday. email conversations with the woman from our alpine sports family group who is organising the crosscountry course for the kids for our skiing trip next week. i was in email conversation with her about another issue, too, which increased my worry of getting on her nerves - but the issue itself: - a few weeks ago she mails asking us for the age, shoe size, size and weight of our kids, so she can book their gear - a couple of days ago she mails that in fact, the place where she wanted to rent the gear does not let her book for the whole group, and wants some prepayment, so we should do it individually if we feel safer having booked (mentioning that she does feel safer with that), and gives us a link - i go on the link, they have an option for reserving without prepayment (and without guarantee that they'll have enough skis there) and an option for booking. i go to the booking area, but since i know nothing about skis i end up emailing the woman again, asking if i need to book these or those for agnes - she mails with a screen shot from a different part of the site that just lists their skis, showing the skis for kids. i check the site again - those are not listed in the booking area of the site. in the reservation area there is an option of reserving skis for kids (but without giving any information about the kid's size) - i mail again asking if i overlooked anything in the booking area (assuming that since she gave us the link and said she feels better having booked, that she did so for her own son), i can only find the skis for adults there, if she can tell me where exactly to book and prepay the skis for kids ... - she replys in what seems to me an annoyed tone that i should just call the place, it's not like she could do anything more than that, either.
sorry, gotten kind of long ... but i am wondering how others would have proceeded ...

Well, I am certainly confused, but then again I know nothing about skiing. I agree with you that the websites do not seem to be clear, so perhaps a phone call is indeed in a good idea. If they don't guarantee having the necessary skis for all the kids, I can imagine the sort of nightmare it might be on the day of arrival.

I understand your asking her about which skis to book, since she knows Agnes. But when she sent you the screen shot is probably when you should have realized she's useless and then you could have called the company. The woman seems to be organizing the whole thing, whereas it looks as though some aspects, such as making sure about the kids' equipment, should have have been delegated to others. Since the organizer was familiar with the website, she should have understood how it might be confusing to others & could have told everyone to contact that company directly. Also, her organizational skills could use some work, since she asked everyone for shoe sizes, etc. before finding out whether or not she could book for the group.

I agree with both Bixa and Kerouac.
I think that by the time the second e-mail occurred and compounded the confusion I would have asked the woman if you could speak with her via phone. Many times a lot gets lost in both e-mailing and/or texting and it's usually something that could be resolved in a 2 minute conversation. It also sounds like the woman has zippo people skills to begin with adding to your frustration which in turn is causing you to think it's something you are doing wrong.

I was deadly serious at school. Or at least I thought so. It wasn't until later I came of age and realised I find great difficulty in taking anything seriously and found pleasure in heckling from the back. Mind you, there were a few teachers who always insisted I sit at the front of the class. Maybe they knew something I didn't. Apart from their subjects of course. They wouldn't have been teachers otherwise I suppose. I was often at school the one who got away with stuff because nobody could believe it was me. Sweet and innocent I was.

Re: traveling computer ~ if you are in fact traveling right now and it's the only computer at your disposal, you may want to wait until you get home to update it.
My travel computer needed a Windows 10 update the other day, so I did it. (took forever). Once the update was finished, lo & behold I couldn't get onto the internet with it, as the update outdated the driver. In this case the new driver has to be downloaded onto another computer (one with internet access), then loaded on to little travel computer. Deeply annoying.

Pet peeve - trying to update Windows 10 on my travelling computer as I've not used it for some time - and it won't let me. Windows 10 is the most exasperating platform to update, ever! We have 3 computers running it, and cannot get any of them to update, no matter how hard we try. With limited data on our home internet, we watch in horror as it spins and spins, says 0% for hours, suddenly says it’s done and then when we check update history, there’s about 50 “failed to install” messages. At least Windows Vista let you select which updates to install, and told you how large they were.

I'm not way yet Bixa, that'll be later tomorrow. That's why I'm try to get it sorted now. I've left it on all night doing its stuff but its failed to load one of the updates. I'm just trying to sort that out now. The 'failed to install' notice is coming up so I may just prevent its installation for now.

It has puzzled me at times. Why is peeves the only thread amongst many similar ones to be numbered?

2831. Novels with an epilogue chapter. Dammit, I don't want to be told what happened 10 or 20 years later. I want to imagine it for myself.

2832. people vomiting into food/drink distributors. the damn thing didn't work, of course and I went to retrieve my 2€ piece... utterly disgusting. Never again shall I take a bottle in a distributor in the metro of Paris, once before it was a kind of rusted water that I found.

Epilogues are better than sequels, IMO. See Gone with the Wind and To Kill a Mockingbird (OK, prequel of sorts)

I roasted some vegetables in a very hot oven a couple of days ago. I opened the front and holding a cloth to get the tray out, reached in - but too soon, and the hot air burnt my hand. A good half of it is now very red. My hand that is, not the tray or the vegetables, just to clarify.
