I read about it online, where the poster said, For phone we use the magic jack and we have been shocked on how few travellers know of this. Why in the heck are all of you paying ATT when after owning a 20 dollar jack to place in any port you can call home for free and they can call you? Here's the home page that comes up on Google: www.magicjack.com/1/index.asp The FAQ and other info needs to be closely studied. I am a Gizmo user. The beauty of Gizmo is that I plug a small device (an ATA - analog telephony adapter) into my computer, a phone into that, and I have 2 cents a minute long distance to most of the world without the computer being turned on. Through "back door dialing", people in the States can phone me for free. That info needs to be factored in, as would that of Skype users, when checking out the Magic Jack. At any rate, this Magic Jack seems worth further investigation.

I confess that I never really look around for good telephone deals, because I use the telephone very little -- I have a deal for 2 hours a month of unlimited calls anywhere in Europe plus the U.S. and Canada, and certain months I don't even manage to use 1 hour on the phone (and that is including all of my local calls). Same thing for my mobile phone -- I have a 1 hour monthly subscription and rarely use more than 15 minutes a month.

I have free calls all over Europe, N America, many other countries with my internet subscription.
