Amazing mice

I was at my mother's nursing home today to put together the big fan that I bought on Saturday to replace the crummy one supplied by the nursing home. The fans there are designed not to make any draft at all, so you can barely feel them. It's not hard to understand when you see all of those old people wrapped up in sweaters on the first hot day of June (26°).
My mother's mind may be coated by those gray nasty Alzheimer plaques, but her body is still normal, and when it is hot, she is hot. Therefore I needed to change the fan to one that really blew air at people. I had brought it on Sunday and put it in the closet and today I went to assemble it.
So it was amazing to get the carton out of the closet and to see half eaten cherries in the corner. I had brought some cherries yesterday, and they were in a plastic box on the far side of the room. The mice had actually dragged cherries all the way across the room to savor them in private. Some of these mice are hardly bigger than the cherries, so I am impressed.
The orderlies were aghast when I showed them. They know that there are still mice on the 1st and 2nd floors, but they had never seen such exploits before. The "official" reason that is always given for the mice is due to the demolition of numerous decrepit buildings on the street behind the nursing home. The mice just moved, they say. Bullshit!
Anyway, my mother used to be horrified and terrified by mice, but now she talks about seeing them as though they are her pets.
