Not drinking anything right now. Just finished a clamshell container of beautifully peeled, de-boned, & sliced mango. Mangoes in Mexico have bones?

A can of "Perrier and Juice" but there is such a tiny sensation of juice it might as well be normal Perrier.

Mangoes in Mexico have bones? I, and probably you, call them "seeds" or "pits", but here such seeds and pits in fruit are usually called "bones".

Huesos? Thanks, I didn't know that. How lucky you are to be able to eat fresh, ripe mangoes. Really hard to get good ones in France since they come from faraway and are never ripe.

When you come visit me, Bjd, make sure it's during mango season, which is fairly long. They practically give them away, as overripe mangoes tend to lose taste. The container mine were in yesterday was one of those clear clamshells @ the size of a burger clamshell. It was so full it was bulging at the top.

Not in my glass at this exact minute, but I need to report on this:
Whatagain urged me to try genever when I was in Belgium, but I failed to do so. However today, *drumroll* I had some of the authentic stuff, assisted by the charming bartender and some knowledgeable regulars in a bar in Leiden. I apologize for it being in Holland rather than in Belgium, but there you go. I did like it and would have it again. Also, I was delighted that it's pronounced like "your neighbor".

I have always noticed that in Amsterdam all of the bars are very proud to promote their genever, which is quite excellent. Most tourists have heard the name but don't really know what it is, so the bartenders are happy to explain it all.
At the moment, I have brought out my bottle of cognac to celebrate whoever wins the second semi-final of the World Cup. I have not had any yet, but I will be happy to raise my glass to whoever wins. Just a few minutes to go before the overtime round...

I'm having a bit of rosé but it is not as chilled as it should be anymore since the bottle has been out for more than an hour. I am considering adding ice cubes, which is totally authorised in France as long as you have no witnesses.

Add them. In the heatwave here, it is all kosher. Tropical Québec and Russia!

I am considering adding ice cubes, which is totally authorised in France as long as you have no witnesses. SYNCHRONICITY!!! Am doing the same because chilled rose left out... I got called away by some friends/acquaintances who were having a "wake" of sorts for a mutual friend that passed away on Friday and was a regular at this particular saloon and shared a couple of shots of "Ghost" tequila and sharing tales together, some shocking and many very, very funny. The guy was a millionaire, knew he was going to die at some point soon but not so. He had shared his illness only diagnosed 3 weeks ago with only a select few. (kidney cancer that had rampantly spread). He left all his belongings and money to the LASPCA and the HUMANE SOCIETY OF AMERICA for the prevention of cruelty to animals. He also made sure that special provisions were made for his dog "Champ". I was proud to be wearing my LASPCA volunteer shirt just by happenstance... R.I.P. Larry, WOOF WOOF MEOW MEOW!!

Indeed.
I'm drinking coffee right now, as it's only quarter after nine in the morning, but I did raise a glass of beer to Larry last night.

I woke up at 3 a.m., thinking it was later, so just drinking tap water. Yesterday evening, some spritzer made with rosé and San Pelligrino (which was on sale this week). I'll raise a glass of water and later a caffè freddo to Larry as well. Of course that got me looking at the LASPCA site, but it really wouldn't be practical to go fetch a furry friend down there. Plenty of abandoned creatures up here as well.
I'm glad to see that LASPCA provides such things as spay and neuter to people without much money. They haven't mentioned Larry yet on their site.

Yes, I thought the same thing. More along the lines of "generous, anonymous donor", not to violate his or his family's privacy, but to encourage others with the means to do so to leave a legacy to our furry friends.

Week end was heavy in terms of drinking. So water for me. No ice cube. I never have ice cubes Tomorrow I'll have a good red wine - am having dinner with some good friends. They live at the top of the world. Yes. Literally. Close to d'enfer rochereau their appartement overlooks the newspaper 'le monde'.

Apartment. Autocorrect decided to use french spelling. Always amazes me when some letters disappear or are added. Like address where we write adresse. Vous avez l'adresse de l'appartement ?

I finished dinner recently, barbecued chicken wings using (yes it exists) French barbecue sauce mixed with garlic chili sauce from Hong Kong.
But now I have opened a bottle of Sidi Brahim from Algeria to enhance my evening in front of the television.

I don't drink wine produced in countries where it's not religiously legal to drink alcohol.
I just drank fizzy water today.

Some sidi brahim can be good. I discovered a marocain or tunes Ian wine at my favorite couscous restaurant. Not bad at all. Tonight à côté de Provence.

Thanks for that article, Bixa. Of course, I realized that Algerian wine developed because of French colonization, but hadn't really tied it to the wine problems of 19th century France. I know that until the last decades, North African wine was still mixed with cheap stuff from the Languedoc areq. The latter is still trying to shake off its reputation for cheap and tongue-pricking wine and restrict production to go upmarket.

I had a votes du Rhône. Red from beaumes de Venise. But what is nice is that I rediscovered some Pommard 2012 some Fronsac and I have older cites rôties than I thought. 2011. I could try a bottle some day. I should visit my cellar more often.

I'm drinking some tepid coffee -- what was left in the thermos from this morning, when I only had one cup. I'm also eating some flung-together food as it's the first food I've had today & it's 7:30 pm. The coffee tastes pretty good!

The cognac has come out again as the night is cool. Well, that's the official reason.

When you are not in the mood (or the budget) for top-of-the-line wines, I am consistently surprised at the quality of some of the cheapest ones. I am not really a consumer of white wine (which represents only 10% of the French market anyway), but muscadet never tastes bad for some reason.

I have been deliberately seeking out wines at less than £5 a bottle and find them perfectly acceptable.
Next week I shall be in Spain and it will be 3 euros.
