Here in Québec, we also drink more red than white, but not in the same proportions:
Parts de marché :
Rouge : 69,6 %
Blanc : 25,9 %
Rosé : 4,5 %
About 80% of sales at our semi-monopoly SAQ (Société des Alcools du Québec) are wine. People here also drink beer, but most beer sold is in supermarkets and corner stores; the latter are called "dépanneurs". Dépanneurs and supermarkets also sell wine, but the wines available are frankly table wine that range from decent but ordinary to frankly undrinkable. And I'm not a wine snob either.
I do like white wine, but that doesn't mean I dislike red.

France is now something like 60% red, 30% rosé and 10% white. Apparently the French drink far more rosé than any other country.

Yes, I've read that and heard it on the radio here. Do they drink rosé only in summertime, or also other seasons? www.vinatis.com/blog-les-vins-rosesStrangely, this has me longing for some rosé, and I certainly don't drink anything but water au petit matin (a windstorm work me up, but I'm going back to bed for a bit). Not even coffee time. There is something joyous about rosé.

Rosé used to be chilled wine for hot summer days, but in recent decades it has branched out to becoming the wine to drink with just about any Asian food (Indian, Japanese, Chinese...) and it is also what you drink now with any Savoyard dish (fondue, raclette, tartiflette...). I would speculate that people have decided that they like chilled wine whenever they are eating anything on which they can burn their mouth, and it is also appropriate for fusion food when you might have red meat and seafood in the same dish.

It is true that the last time I drank rosé was at a "bring your own wine" Thai-Cambodian restaurant (from the border area).

I'm having a Chimay, because Monoprix has been having a promotion on Belgian beers, 3 for the price of 2.

I should be in bed, but instead I'm still up and enjoying some rompope I bought from the nuns who make it. It's awfully good.

Looks great ! I knew Avocado but since I learnt it is Dutch, I'll look for Rompope...
I have Seguret (côtes du rhône) in my glass. Actually already one too many... But as the Brits say : one martini is ok, 2 martinis are too many and 3 martinis are too few... same applies with Seguret.

I have to laugh at myself because I'm always shocked at what people are drinking so early in the day. Then I realize that where many of you are, it's already late afternoon or night.
Anyway, if it were the right time here, I would click glasses with you, Whatagain.

Cheers. But I should avoid drinking more (even with you), I'm on the verge of being plastered. Question is just : which side am I already on ? I think I know the answer...

I actually just had a glass of tequila after the wine with dinner. I thought I would be having two, but the first one convinced me that it is just about bedtime.

I never really pay attention and did not read the articles. But I found that it was not bad. Tonight I think I will open the third bottle that I bought, which will also be the last one. Beaujolais Nouveau disappears within a week in France now, whereas it used to be on sale for about a month. I like the idea that it is completely ephemeral. It makes it a bit more appealing, because it is gone before you are able to decide if it was good or awful this year. Mystery is a good thing, especially with wines that are not meant to be stocked.

I had the joy of drinking Beaujolais nouveau in Lyon with friends there. Wouldn't bother to buy any now here in Montréal, as since it is shipped by air unlike most wine, it is more expensive than far finer wines. I'd certainly sample one if back in France, though ideally on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse.
I bought a "vinier" (bag-in-box) of some fairly ordinary but actually pleasant Monastrell from Yecla, not because I want to get hammered but because I frankly don't feel like setting out to shop daily in this weather, except at a surprisingly good tiny grocery kitty-corner from my place (but no good wine). I'm certainly not having any right now. While I have work to do, it isn't urgent, so I've been spending hours tidying the house. Not a good housekeeper but really want it to be tidy now that I'll be spending more time here in this loathsome precocious winter weather.

I am enjoying a homemade cordial that was sent to me by my stepbrother and his wife as a post birthday, Thanksgiving gift they send annually.
It's made from "beach plums", Prunus maritima, which are a native plum that grows in the Atlantic Ocean dunes, in this case, coastal Massachusetts. They used to be much more available but are now difficult to find largely due to coastal erosion and human development/housing/encroachment. We used to harvest them while I was growing up and my mother and aunts would make preserves from them along with a separate batch of "Beach Plum Hooch".
They harvest them in early September and it takes at least 6 weeks to ferment properly.
A tad sweet with just the right amount of tartness.

I had a beer with dinner, but since I wanted a bit more of something, I am now happily sipping the favourite drink of BigIain.

We are sipping some locally distilled Cajun spiced amber rum. A gift from a neighbor.
Not too spicy, just the right 'bite' to it.

Nothing in my glass but water right now, however ........... I had a half glass of merlot with supper tonight. A little while later I went into the bathroom and was shocked when I looked in the mirror. My cheeks, from my eyes almost to my mouth, were bright red. What causes that?

My cheeks, from my eyes almost to my mouth, were bright red. What causes that? A reaction to some additive in the wine, maybe sulphites? I know some red wines give me terrible sneezing fits.

I thought I was the only one! I was at a family Xmas dinner last night and must have sneezed some 15 or 16 times. I was exhausted.

I react badly to beer, the hops? And I'm also talking about no more than one beer, or just half a beer.
I rarely have that red wine problem, but two of my friends can't drink it at all so have white with everything, if they are imbibing.

I just had a Leffe Rituel. It packs a bigger punch than most beers (9% alcohol) but it comes in small bottles.

I've never seen that over here. I like cider, but find most too sweet. I've found two very dry ones here (in Québec).
