"A detailed method of procedure faithfully or regularly followed". Some would refer to as routine yet, these sometimes simple acts done on a daily basis take on a more ceremonial form for me. Otherwise I find them reduced to simply mundane acts.
My morning ritual of beginning the day starts with a look out the french doors and acknowledgement of the sky and the sun as it is about to rise.(I awaken at almost the exact time of day, just before sunrise)This brief pause as opposed to jumping out of bed in a jolt sets the tone for an easing into my day ahead. After a visit to the water closet
I exchange greetings with the animals in our home,3 cats and one dog, prepare them a fresh water bowl, put a kettle of water on the stove for coffee. Then, I feed the animals and begin the preparation of my coffee. I light a candle and sit at my table overlooking the garden. After a brief period I sometimes will write a 3 line haiku in a small bound book . I used to do daily ,but have gotten away from. At the very least ,I will compose something similar in my head.
At this juncture I turn on the radio to NPR and come online and read most of the recent posts and check my e-mail. Depending on my mood or level of energy/creativity I will post or share some new idea/inspiration. I generally stay online for about 45 minutes to an hour at which point my dog begins to let me know it's that time. I take him for a walk and greet some neighbors, one of whom I walk with to the local cafe which is dog friendly. There ,I see several other regulars and their dogs. My friend and our 2 dogs proceed on the same path for a few blocks and then I come back home.I tidy up a bit, make the bed, shower and dress. I will often come back online and read/post some more before proceeding forth to the tasks of the day.
Over the years ,I have found that to rush into the day ahead usually brings out a restless, irritable and discontent casimira.
