I don't that believe they, the decade namers, have decided what to call this ten year period. Maybe all the millenium furor tired them out too much?
I can say "that's so 90's" about the previous time, but "that is so typical of the first ten years of the 21st century" about something going on now?
"the o's"?

Someone will come up with some clever phrase you can rest assured, probably already have. The 'zero' decade or something like that. "back in the zeroes..."

Gad, y'all!
It's staring you right in the face. My dad always said (with tongue firmly in cheek) that something took place in nineteen aught three, for instance.
It's quite obvious that these are the aughts. Pretty soon we'll be able to say, "I remember yonder back in aught-nine ...."

I see the British referring to it is the aughts regularly -- but only in writing.

And, have we decided yet whether to say "two-thousand nine" or "Twenty-oh-nine"? I'm still saying the former. And for some reason, it irritates me when the announcer on "CBS Sunday Morning" says the latter. He's the only person I've heard that says that. Oh, such a conundrum.

It will probably be okay to say twenty-ten next year, but let's remain civilized this year.

And then next year we can fight over whether to call the decade the tens or the teens. Or maybe the New Golden Age, or The Age of Even More Enlightened Reason, When Everyone Behaved Him or Herself.

I prefer the wishful thinking method, myself. I think I'll call it The Decade I Finally Get It Together and Finish that Masterpiece.

I just know that when I see pictures of girls/women wearing their hair in that short, flat, straight cut that morphed from Jennifer Anniston's lovely cut back in the mid-nineties, I'll know the pic is from this decade of the zeroes. Gawd, where are the eighties when you need them?
