Never seen them fresh before... what can I do with them?
I mean I know I could pickle them, but does anyone eat fresh gherkins?

Aren't they just a tiny variety of cucumber? Use them in a salad.

They were basically just tiny cucumbers when my grandmother used to grow them. Tiny ones were picked and pickled while others were left to grow to salad size.

spindrift... I think the one you are referring to isn't quite as fresh and tiny as the ones in my box...

Have you tried one yet, Annie? If they are firmer than you like a cucumber to be, you could incorporate them into stir-fries or even use them in place of zucchini.

By the way, the Kosher style naturally fermented cucumber pickles I started about a month ago have finally "cured". They've been in the fridge for about 3 weeks. They have attained that desirable "half sour" stage.

Never seen them fresh before... what can I do with them? Who ever is selling them to you is actually breaking a law from about 1939 which prohibits the sale of fresh gherkins in the UK. That's why you will never see them being sold anywhere! Only real way to get them here is to grow them yourself. We have a glut of them this year so are looking for any and all ways to use them, everyone has had the pickles given of course we eat them raw in salad just like cucumber but still the monster sized ones keep coming I am looking at putting them into stir fry now especially my dish that the family calls "Nanny noodles" my homemade version of Singapore noodles. any other suggestions greatfully received.
