my brother finally sent me the film he made for my grandma's 85th birthday a couple of years ago ... just watched it, and it makes me feel strange - on the one hand it is interesting and funny to see all these old fotos and films, on the other hand it always makes me a bit sad to think of how past time passes and how long ago this all is and how the little kids in some of the pictures are not even alive anymore, and of course my grandma has passed away too ... i wonder if that happens to everyone or if i am strange that way - but when i see old photos, also those of people i never knew, one of my first thoughts is: they are really old now, or they are dead now ...

Happy belated birthday, What!
rikita - I don't get sad when I see old photos, but I do always wonder about the lives those people led - or are still leading. All those stories left untold...

Putting two different contacts in one eye first thing in the morning is either a sign you're not fully awake, OR you are losing your marbles.

Bit of both.
I had a similar thing, decided I needed my glasses. Not in my pocket so start hunting, see empty case on table, now where are the damn things?. Then realise I have been wearing them all the time.

At least I realized it right away.
Looking for your glasses, Mossie, is like me wondering where my phone is while I'm talking on the damn thing. If course, I love it when one of my children does the same thing. :-)

Things are looking up, now that we are finally seeing the sun again in Paris and the flood waters are receding.

When I am next to somebody with a big ripe pimple, I want to squeeze it so badly.

I am the most horrible person in the world. When my second cousin (also my mother's beloved goddaughter) told me that her husband was going to be buried on Monday, I told her "I'm sorry; I'm going to be in Amsterdam on Monday."

kerouac - there's lots worse people than you... Why, just this morning, I thought, "If only I could get my hands on a kalachnikov, all my troubles would be over." (this involves murdering small children and their parents - all of them screaming virtually all the time at the top of their lungs)

Old men and suspenders (braces), I just don't get it. Since I am not that young anymore, when I was in grade school they were in high school and they were laughing at old men in suspenders. Now they are wearing them. When does it happen?

My first thought of today: my dad. He would have turned 92. For me, he will always be 65. He passed away 26 years ago.

Amoseli, I'm sorry for the loss of your father. My mother passed away 23 years ago yesterday, at the age of 59. She is always with me. Sometimes I see ladies in their 80s and think, that's how old she would be now. I look at their wrinkles, their gait, their delicacy, and wonder.

Lizzy, I'm sorry for your loss, too. 59 ... 65 ... too young to die. My mom was almost 84 when she passed away two years ago, and still we found her too young to die. We don't want to miss our parents.

There is no date for missing lost parents -- or lost children.
