This should be interesting since everyone attended high school in different years -- eras, even. Let's assume the high school period to cover 10th, 11th, & 12th grades. Post the biggies from your high school years. Some major puke came out the year I was a sophomore, including my least favorite Beatles' song, Do You Want to Know a Secret. But there were some jewels, too, including: How Glad I Am - Nancy Wilson Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters You Really Got Me - The Kinks

Predictably enough, we annoyed our teachers and parents to the sweet, sweet music of Killing in the name of (Rage against the machine) and Smells like Teen spirit. And because I went to school in Paris, Tostaky (Noir Desir) was often heard in the playground too.

Bixa, thanks so much for How Glad I Am. My daughter Hannah is dancing to it all around the kitchen as we prepare lunch. She's come back from dance camp saying she wants to hear good songs, so I'm directing her to the Change the Station section. This is great.

Yaaay, tasteful daughter of Lola! That group was from my sophomore year. My junior year held a true classic: The year was 1965 -- see if you can guess this song before clicking on it. and the ever-fabulous Wooly BullyRescue me! Whew ~~ I was looking through a list of the hits of 1965 and that whole year of high school came rushing back at me.

I really liked this song, but this video is so embarrassing, especially the girls dancing in the background.

So ........... are you still wearing your hair that way?
(how did you determine that the dancing girls are any more embarrassing than anything else in the video?)

You mean "French hair" like Paul McCartney and John Lennon got on their trip to France and exported to the entire world in 1963-1964?

High school, that'd be 12 to 15 y.o. approx?
That'd be the music of "Flashdance" (obviously didn't get permission to see that one until much later - once I got dis-interested)
Toto - "Africa"
Wham! - "Wake me up before you go-go"
Eurythmics - "Sweet dreams are made of this"
The height of the new wave (and seriously big hair)
this clip shows my 80's even though you might associate the TV series with the 70's ... the dubbed versions did take a looong time to reach the french-speaking channels

I really liked Toto's "Africa" but I was well into adult life by then.

I should add that Madonna was starting to be really recognised around the world. Michael Jackson was maybe at the height of his success there.

So interesting to see your line-up, Annie. What a different perspective and influence those songs (all of which I really like, Africa & Sweet Dreams being among my favorites) would have for teens and for people well into adulthood, as I was then.
In the US, 10th, 11th, & 12th grades would be @ ages 14 -- 18.
