There are so many everyday items that have one little design feature that lifts them into the realm of the perfect.
I thought about this yesterday when I pulled on a pair of rubber household gloves. What bright mind said, "Lets make the cuff long so that it can be folded back to keep liquids from running down the user's arm"?
Right now I'm looking at the dog's bowl -- essentially a rigid, inverted sailor's cap that makes it easy for the dog to get everything in the bowl without tipping it over.

This thread reminds me of the sippy cup that babies and toddlers use, they can drink without spilling, just great. And how about these kind of pet drinking/eating bowls, really good:

Would work somewhat like the ball & socket joint in our bodies, right? Lovely. What are its applications?
Another simple, ingenious thing -- the cotter pin

My current favourite ingenious thing, especially when you need to open a bottle of wine and cut salami while on a 3 days hike ;D

I would have thought that you got one of those as a christening present as soon as you left the womb. Current? I'm reporting your parents to the Swiss authorities for child neglect.

I don't know what these are called, but they are simply ingenious: They can be crocheted and the beads applied with artistry, as in the picture, or made out of a piece of light fabric with beads sewed at intervals on the hem for weight.

I always traveled with something like this when I could take it in my hand baggage. Actually, it was examined once at Dubai airport, and they decided that it was not dangerous.
