Great pictures Bixa.
That Aloe is cremnophilous - a cliff dweller.
I think your firs picture is a Mesembryanthemum. Nananthus?

Thank you, Tod! Thanks, Mick -- that's a great word & the Aloe definitely looks evolved for its steep life. Also thanks for pointing me in the right direction re: mesembryanthemum. I am thinking my little guy might be kumbulanursery.co.za/plants/bergeranthus-multiceps, based on internet pictures & descriptions, including the fact that it's an evening bloomer. Mossie. And now for something completely self-indulgent ~ Here is the little Bergeranthus multiceps in bud ~ But, surprise -- it did not open to a nice orangey-red as expected ~ So okay -- that's that one identified, but what is this one? It has a similar bud & flower to little B. multiceps, same kind of little dots on the leaves, same spreading habit, and is also an evening bloomer ~ Here is the Astrophytum myriostigma I showed in my previous post. The bud got bigger & prettier. I was going to take a picture, but when I went out an hour later, it was already doing this, the darling ~ But wait -- there's more! Since I'd missed out on a shot of the pre-bloom bud, it obligingly displayed this post-bloom resting state ~ Then, the next day it decided it wanted to be a completely different color!

Great shots Bixa - I love the close-up of the bees all mixed up in the stamens! What a strange thing to have the petals change colour like that. Lovely shade of peach I must say.

Lovely Astro. That mesemb that you don't know is familiar but I can't immediately put a name to it. Let me think. Here's Echeveria Giant Mexican Firecracker -

Avonias are very close relatives.
These all came from collected seed.

Kerouac those cactus leaves look wonderful with their teeny white hairlike thorns(?) - like a sprinkling of icing sugar.
I absolutely love your hanging buckets Ambroseli! Just coming into view on the first photo and more obvious in your second photo, is a green and cream variegated plant. Do you know the name of it?
