I heard they were supposedly doing something about that. Good luck!

GAwwwwwwwwwwwd. I just got home, switched on the computer, and read about the raging assholes demonstrating in Washington. We may be #37 in health care, but we sure have some people who cannot be bested in stupidity. Hey -- take all my taxes to kill people, but I'll shriek like a banshee if anyone suggests that those evil socialist countries like the Eye-ties and the Frogs are actually using taxes to better the lives of the taxpayers.
I'd like to say how clever the video is, how I got a chuckle out of it, but I can't. Its deadly accuracy just made me angry all over again.

Rep. Joe Wilson who heckled Obama is, no surprise, truly a racist creep, one of a small minority of legislators who voted to retain the Confederate flag above the South Carolina legislature. (just google "joe wilson racist" for a lot more. Sheesh. (And no, bixa, I wouldn't dream of stereotyping Southerners thus, I have a friend from Birmingham Alabama whose mum was very much involved in the civil rights movement, and they are white).
How are matters in Mexico? I imagine that rights to healthcare on paper are better than in the US (as a legacy of the revolution), but that in practice there are great shortages and hardships? (simply because Mexico remains poorer).
It is very funny hearing the people describe us up here as some Arctic version of North Korea or Khmer Rouge era Cambodia...

I'd like to give every one of those sons of bitches a gun in order to watch them literally shoot themselves in the foot, rather than figuratively doing it to themselves and others. Then they could call for an ambulance, go to the hospital, get treated, and then PAY THE BILL. Jerks.
Note the complete breakdown of humor and ability to express myself over this issue due to utter fury and frustration.

I don't follow the discussion very much but to me it seems funny that people in the USD are so passionate about it. According to the last figures I saw last night the US spends more per person on healthcare than France, Germany, the UK or Japan.

Yes, but it's all waste and stupidity.
So many of the idiots are stampeded by the very word "socialism". They squawkingly point at countries with high individual taxes, paying no attention to what they themselves are paying if you add up taxes and the obscene insurance premiums and social security. If they added that up, then asked what they got for that money, and compared it to other first world countries ......... they still wouldn't effing get it because they'd be so concerned that a penny of their precious money might be going to help someone who "didn't deserve it". SHEESH.

The lack of public healthcare is also hurting the US economy as it makes it much harder for workers to move between sectors. For example, autoworkers did manage to win very good health coverage, which simply doesn't exist in less centralised sectors.

Good point, LaGatta. The current system means that employer health coverage is in effect part of the salary. This op-ed piece was in the NYTimes this morning. I don't know how accurate his remarks about France are, but I think he makes the US system sound better than it really is.

Ok.
By the way, I do find calling Obama a socialist is pretty extreme. All those people should have a look around Europe but they'd probably be too xenophobic.
