Removal men will be here in 22 hours. Computers will be packed away. France Telecom will withdraw its favours and refuses to say when we will be connected in our new house. I may have time to pop in during today. But then there will be a period of silence.

Even in the Lot, France Telecom works automatically now. Unless the house you bought doesn't have a phone line at all, it shouldn't take any time to have your line connected.
I hope the move goes well.

Well, bjd and Kerouac, here is how it went with France Telecom. Mrs Faz rang them and gave the date of our moving into the new house (where there is already a telephone). She was told they could not guarantee the date we would be connected (and it is the law that you must have a new number). It could be any time within a week before we move or week after. I kid you not.
This was so ridiculous that she rang a different number and got a much more helpful man. He still could not guarantee that we would have our phone line connected, at the worst Thursday be Wednesday. As for the ASDL and Live Box, he gave a shrug over the telephone. So who knows when I'll be on line again. I hope soon.
France Telecom may work "automatically now" but it still requires a human to do something.

I love watching professional movers at work. They have the coolest tricks for shifting things and packing them into a tight space - I always find they have a great sense of humor too.

True, Imec ~~ they sort of turn the whole thing into a giant Chinese box game. You have to wonder if that skill can always be taught, or if that sort of volume/spacial sense is lacking in some people.

Well, in airlines they have training courses for loading cargo. The main ones go by the title "weights and balances." I would imagine that the major moving companies must have something similar.

The removal men are doing really well. They can carry a fully loaded box on one shoulder and a chair in their free hand.
