Most of us are obliged to get up by a certain time of day, generally for work reasons. Others do not have that constraint but have their ingrained habits. Some people are totally variable.
This subject came to mind because I generally get up between 6:00 and 6:45 whether I have to go to work or not. If it only had to do with work, I could get up as late as 8:15, but I like to have free time in the morning before I leave home.
Last night, though, I was invited out to dinner and there was an absolute excess of both interesting conversation but also wine. I didn't get home until after 3:00. I was therefore shocked not to wake up this morning until about 8:10. I felt that I had already slept the morning away.
What about you?

I am almost always up well before sunrise, usually between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m.,farmer's hours I guess. I will occasionally sleep in, but if I sleep past 7:00 a.m. I feel rushed and it tends to mess up my day as I have a pretty set routine. While I was on holiday I had to make myself sleep in a little bit because of the routine at my mother's.

I like to wake up 7:00-7:30ish. In my 20s it wouldn't be unusual for me to sleep until noon on weekends

i like sleeping in. even if i am tired all day, i usually get wide awake and energetic late in the evening and thus have trouble going to bed then (though once i close my eyes i can fall asleep quickly, but i had to learn that, didn't use to be like that). since my work is very irregular, my time getting up varies a lot. the next three days i work at 9:30, so i get up at 7:30. sometimes i work at 9, sometimes at 10, getting up accordingly. when i don't have to work, i sometimes sleep till ten or eleven or later, but lately i have tried to get up by nine anyway.
my bf lately has to get up at 5:30 during the week... i feel quite sorry for him. but he tends to wake up early anyway, on weekends he still gets up like at seven or earlier. well, he says the good thing is that he gets to use the computer without me blocking it when i am there, in the mornings.

6:30 during the week and not much later on a Sunday. Though today was difficult. I left/lost my phone in a bar and got home around 3 this morning as well. But it was worth it, you'll see

No, no. I lose phones on a regular basis so only buy cheap 25USD phones nowadays, black and white displays, no camera, no memory. New one is here already.
I'm already uploading some pics to flickr so I think some stories will be online by this evening.

I'm an early riser too. It is 5:20 here as I write and I've already made coffee and fed Renzo. I mostly work at home, but I'm much more productive in the morning, and getting up early allows me to fart around on the computer ... er, "read up on current events in different languages I use". I indicated before seven as I usually get up at six or so. In May, June and early July I'm almost always up before that at I like to do bicycle laps in a nearby park, when it is already light and there are no daycare kids yet.
kerouac, I love evenings with friends, good food and wine, but after midnight or 1 am I'm really a wreck (and not referring to an excess of wine, I'm that way cold sober). Just fall asleep. My best friend is the polar opposite, and now that she has retired, she often sleeps in until 10 am and is up until late at night.
nikita, long-distance boyfriend is an early-riser too, and has to for his work in any event. But long distance so limited impact on my daily habits...
hwinpp, now you have piqued our curiosity!

My alarm clock rings at 05.30, I get up 10 minutes later. On the weekend I get up between 8 and 9

Work days I am up about 6ish but at the weekend usually wake up at 7 – 7.30. Waking up doesn’t mean getting up at the weekend though, all three of us sometimes lie in bed reading and chatting for a couple of hours until hunger makes us get up. I do wonder where the ability to sleep in until lunchtime went. Even when I have the time to do it if I want my body makes me wake up

I wake around 07.30, get up make tea and feed the cat and birds. I would find it depressing to get up in the winter before the sun rises. I did plenty of that when I was living on my farm.

spindrift, you don't have to start work at a specific time? (I'm not being nosy about your personal situation, just thinking that is exceptional). Although I usually work at home, it would NOT look or sound good if I were obviously abed when someone phones etc to speak to me about work, and that starts at about 8:00 or so (not counting people in Europe).

well, if they are made of candy, perhaps. well i have never been a morning person. my dad isn't either. it is in my genes. Same here. I normally don't have a choice and have to get up before 8:00AM (yes I know that's nearly afternoon to some of you). But when I do have the choice - I exercise it.

how come did my post disappear?
I wake up at 5:45 Monday to Friday and we tend to wake up naturally between 8h and 9:15 at weekends. Must have something to do with growing older.
