Now we have a general idea of when people rise (or don't) in the a.m. What time of day is your mind at it's sharpest. Although, I am an early riser,I am not necessarily on top of my game so to speak until I'm awake for about an hour, maybe a little less. Then,I generally have another surge of acuity around the early evening hours.(Not caffeine induced).

As an early riser, I am also pretty sharp in the morning (unless there was a regrettable night before that), but I'm probably at my best in early afternoon except when I'm at work (which is of course most of the time).

For me, it's all about adrenaline - as long as there's a free flowing supply, I can be "on" when I need to be - sort of like having an autopilot. (although I do resent it if it has to be early - and as kerouac says, the night before can have a profound effect).

My sharpest? About 25 years ago.

The adrenaline hits worked a lot better 25 or 30 years ago - I pulled all-nighters weeks in a row if need be. Nowadays for work, sharpest in the morning, but not right when I wake up - I do routine stuff for about an hour - read newsy websites, do the dishes, that sort of stuff.
I have a terrible time nowadays with meetings that drag on past 10pm. Just fall asleep. Even partying past midnight is difficult.
See bazfaz is about to become a dynamo, though it is getting late in the evening for him...

My brain usually has a surge of sharpness when I first wake up. that's when I have made my best decisions. Then once I get out of bed, I need time to have a shower, breakfast, getting ready, etc. My brain starts normally when I am at my desk, at the start of the day. Where I used to work before, my brain would spring into action once I got inside the courtyard, ready for any catastrophe that may show up before I start the computer. All downwards from then on, apart from the odd moment in the afternoon or evening.
