Today marks the 8 year anniversary of the brutal death of Andrew Shepard, a gay youth who was robbed, beaten and tied up,left for dead to be found two days later in the PNW. For me it was (is) one of the single most sad and startling events in the history of my country. I don't even like to be reminded,I was so angry and ashamed.

The battle continues in a lot of places. The current scandal in Paris concerns the amateur football club championship of the Paris metropolitan area. The Créteil Bébel team, composed of practicing Muslims, refused to play the Paris Foot Gay team because the majority of the members are gay. It is interesting to note that the coach of the PFG team, Brahim Naït-Balk is also Muslim.
Anyway, the match has been rescheduled and if Créteil Bébel refuses to play, they will almost certainly be excluded from the league. If the match does take place, it is sure to attract the biggest audience in history for amateur football, because all of France will be watching this time.
The press also pointed out that in the professional football league, only two teams have signed the Charter Against Homophobia (Paris S.G. and Auxerre) and three others have said they will sign soon (Nice, Monaco and Saint Etienne). Hopefully, the controversy will push more teams to sign.
