www.hammondstar.com/articles/2009/10/15/top_stories/8847.txtI'm putting this in port and starboard because alas don't think such cretins are only found in southern Louisiana. Errrr, what millennium is this? And who is the President of the USA? Think of the children! "A justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple last week because of concern for the children who might be born of that relationship. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace for Tangipahoa Parish’s 8th Ward, also said it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long. “I’m not a racist,” Bardwell said. “I do ceremonies for black couples right here in my house. My main concern is for the children.” Beth Humphrey, 30, said she and her boyfriend, Terence McKay, 32, both of Hammond, intend to consult the U.S. Justice Department about filing a discrimination complaint. Humphrey said she called Bardwell Oct. 6 to inquire about getting a marriage license signed. She said Bardwell’s wife told her that Bardwell will not sign marriage licenses for interracial couples".

Well, good for the local paper for publicizing the incident.
Unless the law has been changed, you do need a blood test before marriage in Louisiana.

Really? I always thought they were to detect "social" diseases. Isn't that what a Wasserman test is, and isn't that the one taken by couples planning to marry?

Really? I always thought they were to detect "social" diseases. Isn't that what a Wasserman test is, and isn't that the one taken by couples planning to marry? We may both be right, bixa. Wasserman tests for syphillis. But in Wisconsin the test was for rubella, or German measles. According to the Family Law website: Do I have to take a blood test?
The rules differ from state to state. Many states have done away with mandatory premarital physical exams or blood tests. Some states still require for venereal diseases, and a few also test for rubella (also known as German Measles, a disease that is very dangerous to fetuses), tuberculosis, and sickle-cell anemia. Due to the rise in HIV and AIDS, many states now require that parties applying for a marital license must be offered an HIV test and/or must be provided with information on AIDS and tests available. Presently, no states requires a mandatory premarital HIV/AIDS test.

Interesting, Kimby. I never questioned it and obviously times have changed.

I cringed when I heard this on the radio this a.m. This "cretin" will soon be out of there. My question is how he got in there and how long etc. The governor has stepped in and publicly vilified him .Next ,it will go before U.S. Supreme Court.

The couple in question were 30 and 32 years old, respectively. Presumably mature adults, not rash "barely-legal" teens.
La madre del cretino è sempre incinta.

I guess the cretin was afraid one of the couple's children might grow up to be President someday.
