You don't have to gain back the 12 kilos you lost immediately.

spinach and potatoes and scrambled eggs with bacon (small pieces). a. only ate the bacon and then asked for more. we insisted she eat at least some potatoes, because you can't live only of bacon ...

Yes, too salty for one thing. Does she not like spinach?

there are times when she does like spinach. actually, so far with that meal, she seemed to go through phases of liking and disliking each item (sometimes she ate mainly spinach, sometimes mainly egg, sometimes mainly potato). the bacon is a new addition ...

I am roasting a whole chicken tonight, so this will almost certainly be the main element of at least 4 meals in the coming days.

Suppose you have a slightly larger oven with the kitchen renovations?

Post by kerouac2 on Mar 13, 2019 17:51:44 GMT
Yes, I have a "real" oven now, but I have actually found that the toaster oven was better for my needs. For example, it had a rotisserie and the new one does not. Oh well.

Aromatic chicken noodles...I'm roasting a pepper as we speak so that I can whizz it up with lemon grass, red chilli, garlic and ginger to make a paste. Using courgette and carrot matchsticks, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and chicken. The sauce has loads of ingredients in it..will take ages to prepare but minutes to cook.....

I decided to test the Monoprix brand chicken nuggets. Mistake. Of course, we all know that chicken nuggets are always a mistake but even more so if you heat them in the oven rather than frying them. They need to be as crispy as possible before you bite into the mush.

That is one junky thing I've never eaten.
I'm quite happy with my countertop convection oven; i.e. a toaster oven with a fan so the food cooks evenly. The only problem is that it limits how much I can cook. Which is not a problem as I still sometimes cook too much - what I could eat a couple of decades ago.
Tonight, some variation on "chile, chili, chilli" - a stew that includes chicken mince (good, from a butcher's) and cannellini beans, as well as other items.

We had leftovers fo lunch heated up in the microwave, if anything it was even more delicious, well worth the faff. This evening I fancy something simple...probably salad with tuna.

Salad with tuna is lovely. Also with good sardines - yes, a bit fattier but nobody ever got fat on sardines, especially if served in a salad. I like sprats.
Peppers, onions and garlic are a given in most things I make. I had cannellini on hand. I love red kidney beans too, as well as black turtle beans, but sometimes find cannellini easier to digest. My ancient slow cooker finally died - I must get a "new to me" one, and start soaking and cooking my own beans again, with kombu, a kind of seaweed that improves their digestibility.
I wonder if dulse, a seaweed common here and eaten for many generations in Atlantic Canada (the Maritime Provinces, Newfoundland, and I'm including the far east of Québec in this case), would do the same?

I love tongue. I have one tin left because it was on sale as a pack of three tins back when I bought it.
Tonight I had beef samosas with hot mango chutney along with oeufs mayonnaise, a dreadful nutritional mix. I promise to eat vegetables tomorrow.
