Dirty rice needs innards.

Your Dirty Rice sounds good Cheery and has given me some ideas for next week. For me tonight ....My favourite pasta dish with prawns which I change according to what I have in the fridge or garden. Whatever, it has to have tomatoes, artichoke hearts, chilli, sugar snap peas and ... mint not basil. I love mint with fish! Tonight I have also added spinach, a splash of red wine and I am going to allow myself a generous dusting of parmigiano.

I've never tried mint with fish -- interesting!
I had a nice mini baguette which I loaded with refried black beans, mild cheese, and onions. Not sure that pickled habanero I minced I put on the sandwich was such a great idea. It was lively!

Kerouac, that looks really good. What is the white speckled stuff on the bottom -- dragon fruit?
Cheery, that pizza must have been dynamite! And enough blueberries from the garden to make a pie -- nice!

Kerouac, that looks really good. What is the white speckled stuff on the bottom -- dragon fruit? No, that is actually just rice with poppy seeds.

I love nigella seeds in rice and bread.

I made real chicken nuggets with pieces of chicken breast and tempura batter. They were exceptionally delicious but probably just as bad for you as the industrial product, maybe even worse.

cheery, clean rice? Turkey mince is extremely low-fat unless some of the skin is included. Unlike chicken, even the skin is not very fatty. I often make meatballs from that mince.

Bought a good cod fillet, not too big. Let it sit a bit in lime juice. then stuck it under the grill of my little countertop convection oven, adding fresh coriander (cilantro) chopped fine, olive oil and other odds and ends. Very tasty, though obviously it makes a lot of broth. It won't go to waste.
I'm not really hungry in the heat, but I am craving protein, and love fish.

Pork sausage on the BBQ, green beans and roasted potatoes. Chocolate cake, with chocolate frosting and chocolate sprinkles with vanilla ice cream for dessert. I made the chocolate cake on Saturday as we had invited friends over for dinner.

You have more appetite than I do! Perhaps it isn't quite so hot and humid. I actually bought some fried chicken drumsticks from my nearby Vietnamese grocery. Very light breading/coating; not at all greasy. There were 6 drumsticks and a dipping sauce for $4 Cdn. I ate three, could not have made a meal much cheaper. Eaten with salad.

Your meal sounds delicious Lagatta! I had doctor appointments at the hospital so I only had time for tea this morning and by the time I got home it was past lunch and too close for dinner so I just had another cup of tea, so I was hungry for supper!

Whole baby potatoes cooked in the skillet with olive oil, then sliced carrots and poblano pepper added. Had that plus scrambled eggs. It's the kind of thing you do when you're not inspired but want real food and not snack stuff.

Tonight I had one of the simplest (and best?) dinners imaginable -- frankfurters on a baguette with mustard, chopped onions and sauerkraut.

No decent frankfurters available here, and sauerkraut not readily available. I wept reading your post.

Actually, although sauerkraut is readily available in France, you usually must buy it in practically industrial quantities (family of 4?). Or there are the 1/2 tins which are still too big for sandwich use. But in Luxembourg I was able to buy the German 1/4 tins which are the best size for small uses.
I still have some left over and must find something to do with it in the next two days.

We can get good "real" frankfurters, of a general Alsatian/Western German type. I usually buy the chicken ones, but there are also ones made of pork and veal, if I recall. I wonder if any of the jarred varieties would be worth taking to Oaxaca?
Do Oaxacans eat curtido, or is that only central American?
I can buy the German tins, but often have to freeze some (it freezes fine in Ziploc-type bags). In the Netherlands I could buy good wine sauerkraut in a 500g pack.

During the winter you can find sauerkraut at the cold-cuts section of the supermarket, by weight. If it freezes, you can put some aside to eat with your frankfurter in summer.
