That looks nice K2. Among other things this salad, all home grown.

You all eat so well!
I had leftover seashell macaroni plus swiss chard cooked with radishes, a little tomato, and garlic.

I had a totally vegetarian day, and it wasn't even accidental. I was horrified by the recent statistics of how we are all going to die if we eat so much meat. For lunch I had a lentil and parmesan patty with sauerkraut (left over from the other day) and for dinner I had white beans and peas with onions.
I think I am going to fart a lot tomorrow.

I had lentils yesterday as well -- made a sort of stew with curried flavored lentils and cooked chayote, carrot, and baby potatoes in with it. The last time I bought meat, I wound up giving it to the dogs, as it simply doesn't attract me any more.
Today for lunch I dipped the chayote & carrot out of the stew along with some of the lentils and put them into the blender along with a clove of garlic & some parsley & lemon verbena. Whirled it, then heated it & spread it on split, toasted potato focaccia.
The white beans & peas with onions sounds really good. Did you make it just as it sounds, or is there some special culinary secret to it?

I had an immense desire to eat a real fish a couple of days ago. As a child (like most children, I think), I was really appalled by whole fish, even with the head cut off because the bones were a nightmare to deal with. I almost always waited for my mother to abandon her own plate to take care of my needs, getting enough flesh off the bones for me to put in my mouth. But at least I knew what fish were and not just fish fingers. We went fishing every weekend or two in good weather, and I loved fishing. I just didn't like having to eat them like that although I understood the concept, and also the fact that we were saving a lot of money. As an adult, I enjoy eating fish like that, one reason being that I always eat too fast, and this is a great way of slowing myself down. I went to the Chinese supermarket where they have a huge row of freezer cases full of all sorts of fish, at least half of which I know nothing about. I immediately eliminated all of the expensive fish, because that's just the way I am and then examined the remaining candidates, mostly for size. Not too big, not too small, just like Goldilocks. So I ended up buying a Chinese tilapia. I know they don't have a great reputation, being one of those totally overfarmed fish, but still not quite as bad as panga, which I hope to never eat again. So I bought my tilapis for one euro and took it home. Once defrosted, I put it in a slow oven with herbs and olive oil, turned it over once or twice, and then it was ready.

I should buy one at Marché oriental, but I'd probably have to share it with a friend as my appetite has diminished quite a bit (not unhappy about that). I had been restricting myself to the tasty frozen tilapia fillets at a nearby pan-Latin-American shop (think basically Colombian, but products from Mexico to Argentina and Chile), but that is still a piece, though a large one, and makes two portions for me.
Livia doesn't particularly like fresh fish or poultry (I almost never eat red meat), though she'd certainly eat it if she was hungry enough, being a rescued stray.
I'm marinating good chicken legs: I broke them to thighs and drumsticks, and am marinating them in piri piri sauce, tamari, lime juice and a bit of white wine. Adding onion and garlic this morning, turning them another time later, before roasting in my small oven, broiling a bit on the end. I don't have a grill or bbq. So alas it won't quite be the piri piri chicken from Portuguese shops, but will be fine, and probably better chicken.

I pride myself on my life-long ability to address a whole cooked fish, so feel qualified to regard you as in the highest league of fish eaters, Kerouac.

Even though dismembering a fish is not one of my favourite activities, I will continue to do so whenever appropriate because I love fish so much.

I have no problem boning it at the table, but I often can't eat a whole one, and HATE wasting food, especially fish, a being I'm particularly partial to. I love fish.

I knocked down to pulled chicken portions (not tiny bits) and bones, for stock.

When I am eating a large fish that I can't finish, I just get a small bowl and continue dismembering it to save fish bits for a brandade or a soup. (I only eat fish like this at home.)

People who eat fish are pescatarians, not vegetarians. A true vegetarian would spit in their face.

Yes pescatarians. Then you have different levels of vegetarians. Some excluding eggs etc and some excluding anything using leather and such ... and then you gave the gluten free and finally the respirationists. The true ones are dead though.

People can be "gluten-free" for legitimate reasons such as coeliac disease, but it would be more correct to say they must follow a "gluten-free diet". They aren't necessarily vegetarians. A cousin has that condition; it is difficult and limiting. I'd have a very hard time doing without leather shoes. Many "vegan" shoes are simply some kind of plastic.

I read (as I'm sure a lot of you have) that a lot of these so-called health fads have no health value. While one can easily defend wanting to be a vegetarian or a vegan for personal reasons, it appears that a lot of people suddenly want to be gluten free when they have no health problems with gluten. It is the same with fat free diets, where often the lack of fat is replaced by sugar. A lot of the "fat free" fad appears to have ended, except with fat overweight people who think that the word 'fat' refers to their problem although fat is an essential part of one's diet.

I couldn't agree more Kerouac. Fat free diet…. only cutting out the bad fats to a degree but we forget our brains need good fat…after all they are just one big fatty lump!

I would not go to a class reunion in a million years, but we are all different. My brother went to two high school reunions (15 years and 20 years, I think) and finally managed to have sex with one of the girls about whom he had fantasized. Then she died, but not because of my brother.

I apologise in advance but that made me splutter K2. I've not eaten much at all for the last few days and now I am very hungry. So now it's time for some favourite comfort food. Some spatchcock chicken drenched in harissa and Nandos extra spicy sauce ( I know !!!! ) with a spinach, cherry tomato and avocado salad. And I am going to eat it in front of the TV on my own., Triple delicious.

Not a TV watcher, but looking at cooking videos in different languages and reading fora is about the same thing. I had some frozen cooked chicken legs, which I had boned and cubed. Sautéed with vegetables including a red onion and wee head of garlic, celery and mushrooms, combined with a cup of orzo pasta cooked in poultry stock. And quite a lot of parsley. just leftovers but tasty, served in a small tapas dish.
