I would have had a few swift words with that idiot.
Guaranteed to induce stress cracking, ever tried putting a very hot plate into cold water?

In Paris, they always just water down the hot asphalt, usually with a hose, but this time they were just filling the buckets out of the gutters.

Superb, vibrant pictures, Patrick.
Your series is wonderful, Kerouac, & each photo is excellent. My absolute favorite though is the third one down -- great angle & composition.

That's a lovely portrait and a well-captured moment.

How about this for a summer job? Hanging out in orange coveralls on scaffolding dressed up to look like a prison.

I just now noticed those women on the "Orange is the New Black" ad are real. Wow, that's got to be a tedious job.
Great collection of workers here. I especially love the person touching up the Moulin Rouge.

Excellent Kerouac.
Reminds me of a job I got lumbered with about 30 tears ago. Putting a new floor in a large oil storage tank, X,ooo tons. This tank had held leaded petrol for many years so was not a very nice place. The floor of welded steel plates which sit on a bed of weak asphalt so that when the tank is test filled with water the floor can settle and any leak can be found before it is filled with oil or whatever evil liquid it is designed for. First job was cleaning out so cutting with acetylene torches could safely take place. So a small gang had to go in dressed like the man in your shot and also equipped with helmets like spacemen, into which was pumped safe breathable air.. Not a popular job, but well rewarded, as no doubt the workers you show are.

There were so many categories this could come under, and I debated them all - skylines, bodies of water, weathervanes, but I chose People at Work, because of the guy walking down the dock, drinking his coffee. It's the floatplane terminal I'm using to get to Vancouver Island. There are so many iconic Vancouver things in here: Stanley Park, the cloud-shrouded mountains, the huge sulfur piles on the waterfront of the North Shore. Anyway, early morning in Coal Harbour.

Karcher (high pressure watersputtering ?) is something I get addicted to.
I'm already thinking of how I'll clean my garage once the car is removed and I can get rid of some stuff. Once I start, I usually spend the whole day - esp in southern France, under the sun in 30C at least...
