Lovely shot Mick! That water looks like a pond.
Goodness Htmb, you go to work while it's still dark?? What on earth time would that be?

I am up before sunrise most days at this time of year for some reason (rather strange considering that I am up at least 2 hours before sunrise in winter) but there is absolutely no place for me to take adequate sunrise photos.

My (cell phone) photo was taken in a big parking lot, located on a hill, alongside Interstate 75. I was unloading my car and happened to turn around. It was nice to see something so pretty that early in the morning.

Looks like altocumulus. Possibly a dying front???

Aahh! I nearly said altostratus....

Well it could be, but it looks like altocu when it is fizzling out, as in a dying front.

Yes, that's the view up rue Etienne Marcel around 8 a.m. at this time of year.

Sunrise is easy to take pictures of now because it is still after 8 a.m. This is dawn over the rue de Rivoli side of the demolished Samaritaine building.

I heard the old Samaritaine building was coming down but I'm still a little sad to hear it has. That was on of the best building facades in Paris.

Are they tearing down the whole building?

The main Samaritaine building facing the Seine will remain as is. A lot of people do not realise that the Samaritaine was a complex of 4 huge buildings cobbled together over the years. The building facing rue de Rivoli was a mishmash of 4 old crypto-Haussmannian façades of little architectural interest, so there is no loss in their disappearance, even though the big legal fight was over those buildings because some people do not like the (Japanese) design of the new building that will be there in the future.
You can see the now demolished buildings at 0:27 of this video.
