The health bill passed in the House of Representatives!!!!
"..........the Democratic-controlled House narrowly passed landmark health care legislation Saturday night to expand coverage to tens of millions who lack it and place tough new restrictions on the insurance industry. Republican opposition was nearly unanimous.
The 220-215 vote cleared the way for the Senate to begin a long-delayed debate on the issue that has come to overshadow all others in Congress."

Yes, and Congressman Anh,"Joseph" Cao,from the 2nd Congressional District of Louisiana (who ousted "Dollar Bill" Jefferson last year),a Republican, was one of the key persons who voted in favor of the bill.

Cao voted in favor?! Wow~ there is hope.
Yeah, that news notice came into my yahoo account last night about three minutes after it passed the House. I think I just sat there and goggled for a couple of moments.
All of this is like a big shaggy torpid beast finally lumbering up out of the sand, shaking awake and looking around.

Cao is someone to watch. He is an incredible man. Doesn't matter to me that he's a Republican.

I understand what you're saying. I've developed almost a fear of feeling hope.

Anh Cao is probably Vietnamese yes, hw. Congressman Cao is the first Vietnamese American to be elected into the US Congress. Right now he is the "lone Republican". I hope to meet him someday and ask him to help me find the olive relish at the Hong Long market.

Doesn't it still have to go through the Senate? Which is more important -- the H of Reps or the Senate? Can the Senate drag its feet and keep the bill from being passed?

Absolutely bjd. While the OP is reason for celebration,it is meaningless unless the Senate passes as Kerouac noted earlier.

Lean on your senators, US voters. MO has one good bet and one hopeless dinosaur.
Cao is my new favorite US representative.

Uh, I hardly think the OP is "meaningless". It points up that there is strong support for health care reform in the US.

People from the US will not be shocked by what I quote below. People from countries with sane, civilized health care will probably be downright disbelieving. I just lifted this off my "wall" in facebook. I don't know the woman who wrote it:
Damn, just got back from the doctor and would'nt you know it, Ethan has the Swine Flu.... Did I mention that between the two meds they gave him it cost over $200.00 and thats with insurance.

True, in France I just walk into the pharmacy, they put my health card into the microchip reader and give me all of the medicine on the prescription without asking for any money at all.

And isn't it true that the US government spends more on "health care" than France?
That's what makes me foam at the mouth and thrash about. France, for god's sakes! It's our ally, it's a modern country right under our noses with a working health care plan that benefits everyone. Why isn't everyone in the US crying out and demanding that we simply copy France and get on with it?!

I actually used to buy asthma meds in France when I lived in Germany. The medical/pharma industry has to be seen to be believed!

I'm still paying off a balance from my knee surgery performed in March of this year. We have supposed full medical benefits that Mr. C's 27 years with working for the City of NOLA provides us (and takes a monthly stipend out of his monthly pension check for).Benefit my ass.
