Tomorrow is our Thanksgiving Day celebration here in the U.S. All over America, family, friends and loved ones will gather for a traditional meal. I love this holiday for a variety of reasons. Mostly, the time of year(spectacular weather usually) and the celebratory aspect of it centered around food and sharing. We will gather with neighbors and friends in the early afternoon as we have for the past 15 years or so. People who once lived here ,come in for the holiday, one couple, who arrived yesterday, flies in every year from Hawaii to attend. Our contribution will be my husband's now famous seafood gumbo. I will bake a sweet potato pie and get out of his way in the kitchen.Too many chefs spoil the gumbo... There will be about 60 people in attendance, and we generally have two sittings. Several local musicians, some quite re known will perform music at different intervals informally throughout the day.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of the American posters. Hopefully 2010 will start to bring us out of this abyss that we are in. We still can be thankful that even with the hard times we live in a wonderful country even with all of its warts.

Casi, your husband is cooking a gumbo for 60? Say good luck to him. The most I have ever cooked for was 40.

Casi, your husband is cooking a gumbo for 60? Say good luck to him. The most I have ever cooked for was 40. It is literally a vat. Not everyone who attends eats gumbo, but it will go very fast. Thanks,I will pass along your well wishes. He's got it down pretty good.

I am feeling massively sorry for myself, as my family was all supposed to be together today. It could not be, though, because of work and other constraints. However, it's great to hear that others will be celebrating the day with their own traditions. This is a lovely holiday, as it makes everyone pause to remember all that they have to be thankful for.
I'll be eating a completely untraditional meal at a favorite restaurant with a good friend. I am grateful for the health and means to do this, for good friends wherever they may be, for a loving family, and for this still-miraculous venue that lets me make friends with people like all of you across the world.

no thanksgiving celebration here. but the turkish parents association in my house has invited all neighbours for a celebration on sunday - don't know what it is called in english, in german the flyer says opferfest... Eid al Adha. When Ibrahim was supposed to sacrifice his son... The most important feast day in Islam.Thanksgiving, I've only attended it once. That was in Germany when an American friend invited me over. I quite liked it. Including the turkey, stuffing and everything else. I've always tried to go to an American owned restaurant here since arriving and joining in the celebration but I've never made it. Missed it again yesterday.
