Some things are just impossible to understand. The audio slide show leaves me even more confused and shocked.

That's screwed up, but doesn't surprise me.
*sigh*

California has become, sadly, a wasteland of illegal immigrants - (many trying in vain to make a better life for themselves), the working poor, the homeless, and the uber wealthy who can afford to live behind gates to stay away from all of the former.
Many saw the writing on the wall and left CA in the past 20 yrs or so-- (1990 holds the record for more people LEAVING the state than moving into it) and many of those who now want to leave are not in a position to do so.

I know that my brother and sister-in-law are among those planning a move to Oregon-Washington as soon as they retire. Those two states continue to have the reputation of being greener pastures for many Californians.

hmm...the title of this thread ring a bell.
I have to agree California is a mis-conception of ideas in many ways. Apart from the coastline and weather, I didn't find it anymore interesting then any other place.

I love California- at least the interesting bits near to the coast and in the mountains. My family has been in California for a very, very long time, no matter how much time I live other places I will always be a Californicator.

I know that my brother and sister-in-law are among those planning a move to Oregon-Washington as soon as they retire. Those two states continue to have the reputation of being greener pastures for many Californians. Except for the many californicators that spill over into Montana. (We don't have blacks, very few hispanics this far north, and not many Indians either, so we gotta have SOMEONE to hate!)

I think my sister-in-law is originally from Montana.
