I had a severe shock earlier in the week and as a reaction I have completely lost my appetite. This is such a nuisance because I had just loaded up my fridge with good things to eat. Now, regretfully, I detect a whiff of decay when I open the fridge door. I must soon dump all the food I bought. But I really can't help not eating.
This is a classic case of mind influencing bodily functions. I've had this happen before when I had a gruelling 3 weeks in India and when I finally reached Bangalore a couple of days before my flight I went into a non-eating state and didn't recover until I reached england again.
Has this ever happened to you? And if it does, how long does it last?

Thankfully, it has never happened to me.
What can I do for you, Spindrift? I will send soothing vibes, but you may want to drink some linden herbal tea (do you know tilleul/lindenblueten?) to help with recovery... unless you think Bach flower's "rescue remedy" might help?
You must must try and feed yourself. Especially in this cold weather.
Here, have a big big hug from me.

I agree with annie, you have to feed yourself in this cold weather. When I lose my appetide, I usually feed myself with yoghourts and soups, things that I can swallow easily. Hope your appetide comes back quickly ! Just think of all the cheese, salami and sausages I am going to bring ! And here's a (((((hug))))) from me too.

How are you, Spindrift?
I hope you are feeling a lot better by now. Life has shown me that there aren't many things worth losing one's appetite about.

Yes, if you are not specifically sick to your stomach, it is important to go through the motions of eating even if you have no interest in it. Since food is a memory trigger, this gives you an additional chance of snapping out of it if you find yourself eating something related with pleasant memories.

Thank you all for the comfort you've brought me. I'm able to eat one 'balanced' meal per day now. I have been indulging in extra yogourts and I find that toast and cherry jam is easy to swallow. Kerouac has a good point about trying to eat foods with good memories. It's strange but when I sit down to a meal outside of my house then I feel hungry and enjoy eating it. I am mainly affected by eating in MY house....hmmm.... maybe it's the fact that when I'm eating with other people I am throughly distracted from my stupid woes.

Yes, spinny, it has and does happen to me, on and off. You're right it is a matter of mind over what your body wants/needs. I have quite a stressful/busy life in many ways, but it's what I want, so I can't complain really. I think I've mentioned in the past that I have lost over 20 LB's in weight at times, but for me that was a good thing I agree with Kerouac, eat yogurt and things that are easy to eat. Please don't hesitate to PM me if you need to talk.

I will, Deyana, and thank you. It's not a pleasant sensation is it? and it seems to be lodged in my abdomen.

Just think healthy, spindrift. As long as whatever you eat is healthy, you'll be fine. And your appetite will come back.

That is great. I was about to suggest cooking a complicated exotic dish. The mental effort put in to such an enterprise is good for forgetting one's troubles or obsessions, and as the dish nears completion, you generally become very enthusiastic at the idea of eating it.

I'm sure you're right. My mental effort tomorro must be geared into buying a ticket for INDIA. I've put it off for 2 days already.....
