So as you are all probably aware, the Olympics in Vancouver have begun. Last night was the opening ceremony. But guess what? NBC in all their wisdom decided that the west coast (yes, the same time zone that the Olympic games are in) did not get the opening ceremony LIVE. We got it on a 1.5 hour TAPED DELAY. Not only was it on delay- but the sound quality of the tape fed back to the local networks was so poor that the sound cut out constantly during the entire broadcast. I actually thought it was my cable and I called them to find out what was going on. The CS rep told me they'd been flooded with "thousands" of angry calls from customers about the bad feed from NBC. So as a result people are furious here and have even set up a "NBC FAIL" page on Facebook, that my friend sent me this morning: www.facebook.com/group.php?v=wall&gid=22540674997And as someone so eloquently wrote there, this delay was so bad it would have been faster to drive an hour to the border, watch the ceremony and then drive home after.... So much for looking forward to "live" Olympics in Pacific Time!

That is bizarre. You probably live closer to Vancouver than anyone else on the board except perhaps fumobici.

Europe (and probably the rest of the world) has never forgiven NBC for what they did at the Los Angeles and Atlanta Olympics. (Strangely enough, the Salt Lake Olympics had almost acceptable coverage.)

That is bizarre. You probably live closer to Vancouver than anyone else on the board except perhaps fumobici. Depending on which way the wind is blowing on any given day, you can almost smell the border from where I am. I actually have a NEXUS card that allows me to get across the border without waiting in the long lines... actually went thru the big-brother background checks to get it, because I go across so frequently.

Yes, I've heard of the NEXUS card. I cross the border here once in a while, for shopping etc, I wonder if I should think about getting one?
It's sad that Nodar Kumaritashvili died on Friday during an event at the sliding centre. Tragic.

I think the NEXUS card is worth the trouble, deyana.
As for the Olympics, the furor/anger grows. Will be interesting to see what the talk radio jocks have to say tomorrow.
Most people I know are now on a total boycott because of the NBC debacle.

I'm tired of the "Annecy 2018" commercials on French television.

I also wanted to add that I HATE BOB COSTAS. Never liked that schmuck, but dislike him even more now. "STFU" comes to mind every time I see his face. Ok, folks, I will stop my griping about this now. I realise there are more important problems in the world!

There is actually not much to rant about for the Olympics in Europe right now. With a 9 hour time difference, we know that we are doomed to see almost everything recorded, except for the super night owls.

I've been watching the games on CTV which IMO hasn't done as well as CBC had but is still miles ahead of NBC. I've heard the area around Robson Square is quite the party.
Annecy is a lovely place but seems a bit small to host a games.

Well, Albertville was even smaller.
