Mich, I love the photos of you and your husband that you've shown. It's as though the two of you glow in each others presence. Agreed!! A very apt description Bixa.

Lagatta, the words expressed on here sometimes really evoke emotions as Rikita and whatagain did for me the other night and as Bixa and Casi has done tonight. I understand your sadness, I have been up and down for months.

Not to trivialize anyones feelings, but are you ladies suffering from the winter doldrums up there in Canada?
Casimira, just now read your full response about missing the massage. Do be careful, as this year's flu is particularly virulent, from what I've heard. Sounds as though you've had a tiring couple of weeks.

Bixa, it seems like everyone I know has gotten sick this winter. The Urgent Care Centers have been packed with people and some of my friends missed Mardi Gras because they were bedridden. I have been symptom free and hope it stays that way. I am getting proper rest and taking my vitamins.
(As aside I must repeat this story. I was in the local pharmacy the other day. A woman came in and asked the clerk where could she find some EUTHANASIA. The clerk looked totally perplexed while I was trying as hard as I could to keep from losing it. I turned to her and asked her did she perhaps mean Echinacea. "that's it, that's it!!" she replied.)

If euthanasia were sold in pharmacies, it would probably be sold out most of the time.

Oh my god -- that is hilarious, Casimira! I'm glad you managed not to laugh, as she might have then made you the escape goat for her frustration.

Bouc émissaire? Do they say that in Spanish?
Yes, I always suffer from winter sadness, blues or doldrums. There are other words for that state, which is NOT clinical depression, but can aggravate the latter for those in the midst of it. There is much more sunlight now, today it went up to 8c, and I took a spin on my bicycle - yesterday I oiled it up and cleaned the chain. Took it first to a borne near here where you can inflate your tires and use a range of tools. Amazingly, the latter haven't been stolen.
While I agree with voluntary and assisted suicide, no, it shouldn't be at the pharmacy. People, especially very young people, would kill themselves for passing reasons. I think the message should be we want you to live, but also the right to self-determination.
Here, many patients who have that right wind up dying of natural causes first. They just want that peace of mind, not of having to go in agony.
The flu - and the winter in general - have been very severe this year, but that is also true for quite a swath of North America and certainly down to New Orleans, with their unusual cold and no infrastructure for dealing with it.

Lagatta, I believe you are being a tad pedantic. The story I posted was an attempt at adding a bit of levity and not designed to evolve into a philosophical discussion about euthanasia. Perhaps I should have posted it in the "mangled English" thread.
But, as we all know and have experienced, threads do take on a life of their own.

Casimira, not to try to top your story, I'm reminded of the time I was in the waiting room for an endoscopy, and there was a man trying in some agitation to explain to anyone who would listen why his daughter might take longer to come round from the anaesthetic. I assume he wanted to say "narcolepsy", but what came out was "She's got a slight case of necrophilia"! My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

good one Patrick!!!!! (when my husband was a Paramedic for 25 plus years for the city he heard some"doozies" as well.) One that comes to mind was how he was trying to explain to a relative of the patient how if they didn't proceed with a particular procedure immediately she might "expire". The woman responded with outrage saying," what do you mean EXPIRE?? She ain't no Visa card!!!"

At today's general assembly for the building, one of the newer owners is a construction foreman and he was able to contest certain items on the roofing bill estimate that we had to approve. So the price was reduced about 1500 euros from the initial estimate of about 145,000 euros. Yippee, this reduces my share by about 120 euros.

I received a warning from the moderator of another website today who said that I shouldn't be "rude." Since I had not at all been rude (who, me?), I replied that I was sorry that some dullards had misunderstood me. The mod wrote back to tell me that they were not actually dullards but "inexperienced" and that my contributions are considered valuable.

I am beginning to love Amazon too much, I think. Although I prefer going to a real store and looking at all sorts of things that I didn't necessarily have in mind, I really appreciate ordering something online around midnight and finding it in my mailbox the following afternoon.

I can see that would be a slippery slope for me if I lived in a major city with access to all of Amazon. As it is, sometimes I click on Amazon just to look at it. Sad, really.

Because little things can mean a lot, I'd like to add that in 2013 the Zambian Police Service issued a strategy document detailing its aims for the following three years. Within it were "performance indicators" such as the reduction of car crime by 30%. One thing that caught my eye was the aim to circumcise 2000 officers by 2016.
