SHOT !! (Mick)
Mark, the mind boggles. First...Why? Are circed cops better than the others? Is it a religious thing? Are there better promotion prospects for those going under the knife? Do they have female cops, if so are they at a disadvantage promotion-wise through lack of foreskin?
I wonder if they reached their performance indicators?

Apparently if you are circumcised you have a 60% less chance of catching AIDS. That is what is touted here.
There were a lot of performance indicators, things also like purchasing another 300 speed radar guns. I think it was more an exercise in producing a strategy document than anything else. By the way, incidences of FGM here are minor.

That is exactly what I was thinking (about AIDS) as well as a multitude of other STDs. It is more considerate when raping prisoners, not that that ever happens in a police station anywhere in the world, but just in case.

I received a warning from the moderator of another website today who said that I shouldn't be "rude." Since I had not at all been rude (who, me?), I replied that I was sorry that some dullards had misunderstood me. The mod wrote back to tell me that they were not actually dullards but "inexperienced" and that my contributions are considered valuable. I had something of this nature happen to me recently. We have a community website (Nextdoor) that serves as an online bulletin board of sorts. People post about crime and safety, lost or found animals, events and so on. Last week a woman whose name I recognized immediately as she is a local author of some notoriety posted something about recycling or some such issue. In comes another member who starts gushing about how much she loves this woman's writings blah, blah, blah. Nothing at all germane to the OP. I posted that perhaps rather than violate someone's anonymity it would be more appropriate to PM this person. Well, this woman lashed out at me publicly and in a PM. She then reported me for inappropriate, hostile behavior. I, in turn, publicly posted and PM'd her my apologies (while gnashing my teeth but, did defend myself as did some other members including the woman author). She responded both publicly and PM thanking me for handling the matter in a "mature manner". The PM she sent me said "no worries" and "it's all good". Two of the catch phrases that drive me up the f'n wall. Sometimes you just can't win for losing with some people.

Ha ha, that's too funny. I just joined Nextdoor two days ago. I fear that it is already beginning to irritate me -- just reading it, not yet participating.

As with just about any forum there are always going to be people with way too much free time on their hands as well as "nut jobs".
Some of the information is useful but most of the time I just scroll on by.

I don't care for the way they want your exact address and email before you've even decided to sign up. But then, where I live we already have our own closed website and forums (which most people seem to have deserted for a Facebook social group). Generally members have to be invited by another member. The administrators do a good job of checking as to whether or not the person applying to join is legit. This is not to say that the site doesn't have it's flaws but one can block another member they find to be particularly annoying and any indication of out and out abuse or the like and the guidelines are adhered to in a timely fashion. For me, because I am not on Facebook or care to be it is very helpful as pertinent information is posted. Safety and crime issues in my immediate neighborhood in particular have helped in apprehending criminals and many a "furry friend" gone missing has resulted in the owner being reunited with their pet.

One little thing that always means a lot is gratuitous fun in unexpected places. Yesterday I had to pick up my eyeglasses and left the dogs tied up to the front of the shop. When the owner arrived, she invited them in and I remarked that poor little Harley really did need glasses. I've long known that there is something not right about his vision, but of course had no way of knowing what. She immediately went and got her scope and I held Harley while she peered into his eyes, then announced that he has a problem with the central vision field. This makes perfect sense with what I've observed -- that he can't always tell exactly where something is, such as when he wants to jump off the bed onto the floor. Anyway, the assistant brought out a selection of little bitty kids' glasses to try on Harley. He didn't think it was all that much fun, but everyones phones were out clicking away at how cute he looked, especially in the extremely cool white-framed sunglasses. That's Harley in front, observing some horses that aren't in his central vision field:

Now I'm wondering if dog glasses really exist. I bet they do.

We discussed that. The baby and little children glasses have straps to keep them from slipping, but of course human children have their ears in the right place for wearing glasses. Harley needs some kind of permanent contact lenses.

Dogs here have been getting damage to their eyes from the high levels of sun-glare. Quite a few wear sunglasses and many wear goggles when swimming or board surfing. (Surfing dogs are also getting common nowadays)There are prescription spectacles for post-cataract surgery and disorders like Harley has. I have yet to see a "squashed-in flat face" breed wearing glasses.Maybe they should have gone to Specsavers.

Questa, that is so interesting. I had no idea. Just looked it up online, which was a frustrating experience. Most articles treat the idea as a joke, and others feature ha-ha pictures of dogs wearing what are obviously glasses for humans. I guess I sort of knew about the protective goggles, having seen so many pictures of Frida, the heroic Mexican earthquake rescue dog, wearing hers. The ones she has are obviously made for a dog. But other styles ignore the fact that dog noses are shaped different to human noses. www.ebay.com/sch/Dog-Sunglasses-Goggles/116376/bn_2309548/i.html?_fsrp=1

Something wonderful is happening that means a lot ~ it's raining. Yes, beautiful real rain. Unfortunately, it's also somewhat of a petty personal trauma, as I have clothes on the line.

last night a. woke up when i was going to bed, she wanted some water, and after she drank and lay back down, i asked her if i can give her another good night kiss, and then climbed onto her bed, gave her the kiss and told her i love her, and she had her eyes already closed and just kind of smiled and nodded like meaning to say "i know" ...
in the mornings when i get to sleep in, and mr. r. brings her to daycare, she often comes to the bed, gives me a kiss on the cheek and then holds her cheek in front of my mouth, so i can give her a kiss without having to sit up ...

If I am approved by the city of Paris due to my hoary age, transportation in the entire metropolitan region will become free for me as of June 1st, an annual savings of 827.20 euros.

Here it is good for all public transportation: metro, bus, tram, RER, commuter train, both in Paris and all the way to the outer suburbs.

In the sticks, as here, it is only buses. But in London I believe the Old Age Perishers get all public transport free as in Paris.

Transportation was already free starting at age 60 for people of very limited means. It is being extended on June 1st starting at age 65 for Parisians of limited and "modest" means. I know that it is not fair, because only rich cities can do this. If you are poor and live in a poor city just across the Paris city limits, you get nothing...

In Toulouse transport was free starting at 65 (plus the 10€ cost of a card) until last June. Now it's according to your means, but basically it costs 6€ for 10 trips.

If you're over 60 here you can ride the deadly city buses for half price. And if you make reservations far enough ahead of time you can get a half price fare on long-distance buses.

I can never express enough the little (and big!) things that nurses have done for me. I had another amazing one yesterday who was so special, I was feeling completely overwhelmed, she brought me to tears, but they were tears of gratefulness for her care and compassion.
