Hi all. I haven't forgotten about you all. I just got the knack of the hotel's computer ! We got here on Saturday and spent the day across the street from our hotel at Jardin du Luxembourg. It is as beautiful as kerouac says it is. Today we walked around Montmarte and tomorrow we qre off to Normandy. When we get home and I can upload pics to my old familiar Mac I will post photos. Paris is truly beautiful and I can't think of a better way to spend my 25th Anniversary with the beautiful Mrs. Spaman! Au revoir until I return to the states on the 2nd!

We're back and I am getting over my jet lag now. I have posted some photos of our first day in Paris. The trip over on OpenSkies Airways from JFK was amazing! All business class for 1/3 the price of a the same ticket on Air France. The curious among you can find them at Flyopenskies.com (free plug) . We stayed at the Hotel Luxembourg Parc at 42, rue de Vaugirard almost directly across the street from the Jardin du Luxembourg. It was, to quote Jacques at the front desk, "incredible". I will post more photos, if you want to see them, later. For now, au revoir. Our hotel. The Hotel Luxembourg Parc. My apologies to kerouac2. This was taken on 26 September 2009. Yes, that's me! Chairs are plentiful in September. rue Sevarandola (?) next to our hotel (on left in front [green]). Old man sketching in the Jardin du Luxembourg. The Senat (back) from Luxembourg Gardens. Mrs. S in a cafe. OK, one tourist photo

Spaman ~~ great sequence of photos, thank you! Mrs. S obviously completely enjoyed herself. And hey .... your "tourist photo" is particularly nice. Can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip.

Here are some more photos! By the way, I didn't get my pocket picked, meet any "gold ring" scams or meet any nasty French folks. Every one we met was kind and nice. Paris can be expensive but not any more than New York (where I live). But, oh so worth it! Saint Germain-des-Pres. An information kiosk on Blvd. Saint Germaine. Saint Thomas Church. rue Lepic in Montmarte. rue Lepic. When you gotta go ... Sacre Couer. Omaha Beach. The American Cemetery in Normandy.

Yes, rue Lepic is gorgeous. Didn't know you also got to the Normandy War Graves.
Alas I didn't make it to that set of (landing) graves: US, British, Canadian and other allies. I was at Dieppe with a friend (very elderly now) who was in the resistance back then. There are many monuments to the failed Canadian landing, as so many people here are of Normandy origin.

Bixa,
Thanks, but I must give credit where credit is due - 99% of the photos were taken by Mrs. S!
I will post more later.

We did have a great time. We spent most of it, as I have said before, on the left bank and in Montmarte. We saw an inline skating "party" on Bvd. Saint Germain on Sunday the 27th. Maybe kerouac can explain that to us. There were a lot of skaters and the police were clearing the boulevard every couple of blocks for them. BTW, the Paris police seem to love their whistles! i only have this on video and I can't load it to Flickr . Here are some new pics: The fountain on Place Saint Sulpice. A Palestinian protest in front of the Opera Garnier. A village near the Normandy Beaches. These villages were completely destroyed and rebuilt in the last 50 years from original stones! Cafe Au Petit Suisse (See Mrs. S at cafe above). Medici Fountain in Jardin du Luxembourg.

Just wonderful! I did not know that about the villages in Normandy, but should have. We've all seen the photos and footage of towns pounded to rubble.
Spaman, would it be greedy of me to hope for somewhat bigger pictures?
Re: video ~~ go to the bottom right side of any AnyPort page and click on the tinypic logo. It will host photos and videos, too!

Thanks! I posted those from Flickr and that's the size I got. I will try to tweak them. The video of the skaters can be found here: View My Video

Yes, the online skating groups are a big thing in Paris. The main event is every Friday night, but there are various other events for people who don't want to stay out late. It is all very well organized: Skating in Paris

Great video! There were a couple of kids in there keeping up with everyone else. That's quite an event.
