Day 2 was a bit of a write off. The activity we planned and undertook that day just didn't pan out the way we expected so I'm just going to leave it alone. We did have a nice dinner at a place on Rue Cler called Tribecca (yes an Italian place with a NY name - got to cater to the kids sometimes). The kids were craving pizza and they got terrific ones here topped with parma prosciutto. I started my dinner with a beer (I did this every night as, strangely, that waht I was craving after drinking multiple glasses of the complimentary Nicholas Feuillatte Brut at the hotel) and then I had a beautiful salad of roquette and a fantastic penne with cream and black truffle which was topped with what I can only describe as a "roof" of shaved grana padano - very satisfying. Mrs. I had a four cheese pasta which was good too. Wine was red but I don't remember what type.
Day 3 - Notre Dame and Shopping
This being our first time in Paris, we naturally had to do some of the typically touristy things and today we did a brief tour of Notre Dame. Lots of beautiful, interesting and sometimes strange carving on and in the building.
Lots of stained glass of course...
Young Miss imec took this picture of a cool little model which shows what it might have been like to see the peasants busting their asses to build this place...
Outside, the clouds were moving fast and if you looked up while standing next to the building it looked as if it was toppling - young Mr. imec captured it best I think...
The famous flying buttresses...
After finding that the Holocaust memorial was closed for lunch , we acquired some Berthillon cones (chocolate, melon and blood orange mmmmm...) we wandered across the bridge and perused the "bouquinistes".
After a short wander around the area...
we headed to the Galleries Laffayette to do some browsing around and to visit the rooftop.
That evening we had an ok dinner at a Corsican restaurant near the Arc (as it was the Monday before the July 14 holiday many restaurants were closed). I sent back 2 bottles of wine which were crap (cru Beaujolais which had turned sour and nasty). The proprietor disagreed but replaced them anyway with a delightful Cotes du Rhone. That was it for day 3.
