I had a helping policeman in Tunisia. I was driving a rented car when he stopped me in a lonely place. He inspected my passport and could find nothing wrong so he went on to my driving licence which was also in order and finally the car's papers. He said that the car lacked a fiche technique (test certificate). I could drive the car no further. Was there no way out? Yes, he said, I could pay on an the spot fine and that would make the car drivable again. I agreed but stipulated I would need a receipt to present to Avis on returning the car. The policeman thought about this a bit and then decided I could drive on after all.
I don't think he had ever been asked for a receipt for a bribe before.

what dedication!
Here it takes 5 burly policemen in their finest hi-viz equipment and surgical gloves to remove one homeless drunk from the large open private garden surrounding the Cathedral. We need to send them to Egypt for training!

I am quite wary of the Police here, as you would expect. I went ballistic at a car full one day and told them they weren't proper Policemen. But it turned out Ok. Other than that I try very hard to avoid them.
