I have a drawer full of socks. They are all neatly bundled up in pairs except for two grey socks (hint to inhabitants of the USA: the socks are gray). These are sitting on top of my chest of drawers while I ponder the strangeness of their incompatability: one of these grey socks is about 10 centimetres longer than the other. Yesterday I got all my grey socks out of the drawer, unravelled them, laid them on the bed and spent ten minutes examining them and rolling the matched pairs up again. Result: I still have these two incompatible socks which are once again on top of my chest of drawers.
If any Porter has a similar pair of mismatched grey socks we can perhaps arrange a deal to our mutual benefit.
Thank you.

Mrs Faz says I have too many socks so took over some of them - but not the grey socks.

When I go to Kathmandu I always give my Sherpa nice long grey wool socks.

I don't have a sock drawer. I have an office style plastic rubbish bin where all of my paired socks live. The ones at the bottom have probably not been worn in years.

Socks are cheap. We can buy as many as we want. No reason to even wash them.

Our washing machine eats socks. I have given up on attempting to wear matching socks except on very special occasions.

Actually, washing machines DO eat socks. Even though there is some kind of barrier to keep them from getting sucked out the drain, it does not always work, and that is one of the places to which socks disappear forever.
