I've no idea why but there is something annoying me now with Google search. When I put in a search term, either directly in the Google page or the tool bar in Firefox, I get an answer - Ok fair enough - but the page layout has changed now. What I mean is that I now have a column at the side giving me search preferences, like 'Latest', 'Past two days' etc. I don't want it. I want my old page back with the results going all the way across the page.
I've scoured the search help but I can't get rid of it, nor with the search settings. Nor will my add on 'RIP' (Remove it permanently) work either. Anyone?

Just went to Google, and I can't duplicate what's happening to you. It's strange, because you'd think all that crap would be in Options. Gad, I hope they're not going to foist that on everyone. I went to the "contacting us" page. What they mean by "contacting us" is that they'd prefer being staked out on an anthill to being contacted. What if you went here: www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/request.py?contact_type=contact_policy and randomly picked one of three problems and just kept answering "no" until they finally give you the address to contact them?

Strange. I've got the old page back again. I don't know what happened there. I'll have to see if it happens again but for now it seems fine.

Mark - I bookmarked Google to show all the news results for Nepal like that. It shows the latest up to the minute news reports. I had to manually change the settings to achieve this. I find it very useful but I only use it for checking on Nepal.
I think it's on 'Googlenews/latest/country'.... but you didnt' do this you say.

It's not the results of an actual search that seems to again have changed, it's format of the results page. Again I now have a column on the left with the Google logo/letters and then different categories I can click on to filter the results. It's the bloody column I want to get rid of..... stupid thing.

How very annoying. I hope that cookie doesn't visit me.

Mine keeps changing too. Someone's got a sense of humour at Google.

Mine has changed back again. I've tried playing about with the cookies and switching on and off the browser but I can't find any common factor. At the moment it's behaving again.

Uggh. My first thought was "Looks like a Bing page." And sure enough, look at the fourth hit down on Mark's screenshot. This fussy version of our beautifully plain Google hits page is due to hit all of us next month.

OK....I've got the new version as well. It looks like we're stuck with it. It doesn't bother me.

Now I have it too. You INFECTED us, Mark! The only saving grace is that the crap on the side can be telescoped up, but it's still there, tugging at the corner of my eye. When will they learn ~~ if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I got it, too, and I am annoyed as hell. I learned my Google licks back in the old days. At my age, it's becoming harder to adapt to change. However, Google Maps continues to have new features, although I haven't got a toehold on the new "Edit" feature.

Grrrr ~~ stoooopid google is only giving me UK sites! I want US sites, as I've always had. As far as I can see, there is no place to specify that.

On firefox - if you go to the Manage Search engine option on the menu bar, you can click on New Search Engine - then search for www.google.com.ncr an add-on will come up for google in English and it will alway take you to the default google US site. Just move this google to the top of the menu search list and you will always be able to search the default google from the menu bar. After you've performed your first search - the open google window will stay US based - even if you do a different search

I don't have a "New Search Engine" option. Instead I have "get more search options". If I click on that, then put your link into Search for Add-ons, I'm offered something that will always give me Google in English. I get Google in English, but was looking for info on Fuji cameras in US sites. Even specifying US for that search is giving me UK and Australia.
But thank you!
