This is the sort of thread on the Thorn Tree Get Stuffed Branch that makes me despair and run quickly to APIAS On the Menu. tinyurl.com/DrinkItOrBinItIt really is sad, considering how brilliant TTGS used to be at times, say 6 years ago.

I'm afraid that you are right, K2.
Is there any hope that minds might evolve instead of sink into lower forms of Internet discourse?

Well, I personally consider this site to be an improvement over the one from which it evolved.

Agreed. Greatly improved. Here, less bling, so points, no silly games.

I agree with Don...that game on TT is mind-numbing and I've responded accordingly.

It is a dumb game, but I don't want to negatively judge GS on the basis of a single lame thing. I will say, though, that I'm somewhat surprised, since GS can be so serious and useful at times. In another way, I'm not surprised at all, since over a period of time that branch became so insular that it effectively shut out any new blood. This is something that can happen to any internet forum. Visitors look in, and the place seems so complete without them that they back right out again. Don't think it couldn't happen here, either. We're a small group, many of whom know each other from one or more other forums. That means we're at just as much risk as any other group of falling into exclusive patterns. Don Cuevas not only links AnyPort on his blog, but actively promotes it. This is hugely helpful and appreciated. Every AnyPorter who publicizes this forum in any way is striking a blow against future stagnation.

Nor would I. But there have been other lame things, and this is just the lamest, so far. There are still some intelligent posters left there. I encouraged the return of asmallturnip and Silvietta, but they don't have as much free time as they used to.
Really, there is an OP asking which meat goes off fastest if left unrefrigerated. This is not news to most of us. But, at least the question has a purpose.

I must wear my APIAS T-shirt when I dress today. ;D
PS: In my previous reply here, upthread, I meant to type, "no points".

Out of boredom, I visited the TT Health Branch, where I seldom go. Amongst the serious questons, there are gems such as (roughly paraphrased):
//Foul Gas. In South America, riding a bike in Patagonia, drinking water from the side of the road, having stomach troubles., gas, acid reflux. Could it be the lentils and granola or the honey/sugar?//
//Stomach troubles in Mexico. (by "Clueless" Got that right! DC) On a remote farm, serious stomach troubles. Ate raw guavas off the tree without washing or peeling. But the lettuce for our salads is washed in tap water, which comes from a spring. Doctor is more than an hour away, and he's not thought well of anyway.//
//Which is better, full body massage or acupuncture?// This last one is from HappyExplorer, who also bestowed us with "Drink It? or Bin It?

Well, it's a big site, and the first one to which many people turn for anything remotely connected with travel, so yeah, there is a likelihood for dumb questions or comments.
My point is that I'd like to see recruitment efforts by AnyPort members, not for mere volume, but to increase the number of participants interested in exploring the range of possibilities AnyPort offers.

Every now and then when I place a link in a place such as that, I wince in advance at the sort of person who might show up. Luckily, the worst elements find nothing to attract them here, but quite a few good people have managed to stumble in.

I've seen the list, Mark. You and I are not on it. Don Cuevas is in the "probation" column.
