Kerouac, thank you for this. I've longed to see the inspiration for my city's Highline. I can't wait to see what the Promenade looks like in Autumn

I know I need to return with my camera during a different season. I think that even if it suddenly snowed, it would be a good time to return.

Well, I finally made it back to the Promenade Plantée on this dismal day. I just walked along a short section of it, but here is what it looks like in November.

Thanks for this Kerouac - what a difference! Somehow, with the empty garden pools it looks almost forlorn, but the bright autumn leaves(or should I say winter leaves!) still make it a lovely place to walk.

K...you are the greatest. As an American who can only get to Paris every few years or so, reading your photo-essays makes my day!

With all of the odd weather, I had no idea what the Promenade Plantée looks like now, so I decided to go and see this morning. I took the bus to Porte Dorée on the corner of the Bois de Vincennes and then hopped on a bike, hoping that my instinct would take me to the far entrance. It did, so I just biked along it for the first three kilometers where it is like being in the woods. Once I reached civilisation, I left the bike at a station and did the rest of the promenade on foot. (That would have been obligatory anyway, because you can't ride a bike at that end.) And then I reached the end and went back down to the street.

Lovely little update K2, thanks. I need to walk this some day.

I tried to make a little video of my ride along the first part and discovered what a pathetic biker I am. Holding the camera with one hand, I wobbled constantly and was obsessed with "I'm going to fall off the bike" and "I'm going to drop the camera." So those fascinating film clips were dumped.

I think I might head over there this weekend with my daughter. It looks like a fantastic place to let her run amok, without being able to get too far away, or into too much trouble (like traffic).

Your new photos are excellent. Any you know that any area with living plants in it is never the same from week to week or year to year anyway.

Fumobici your photos are wonderful! The flowers simply glorious. I have done this walk several times but never beyond the old Reuilly train station. I usually turn off here and walk up to the cafe's opposite the lion fountain at Place Felix Eboue. It's a welcome pit-stop after the walk. I did discover one public toilet that was open en-route but the long walk can make things desperate!

I returned to the Promenade Plantée yesterday, but I purposely started from the far end after taking the bus to Porte de Montempoivre. Most casual visitors never make it this far because they seem to lose interest the moment the footbridge over the Reuilly gardens deposits them back down to ground level in the middle of an apartment complex. So I chose to walk only as far as the Reuilly gardens and leave it at exactly the same place.

Htmb - you will love it up there! I've been three times I think, could be more but never further than the old Reuilly station where you can go down steps. I continued walking up and arrived at Place Felix Eboue where the lion fountain is and also two or three cafe`s. This trip in September I am planning on doing the entire route.

I was under the impression that you were at Porte Dorée where bus 46 runs.

Though I've seen some of this thread in the past, there were parts that felt new to me as I read from the beginning. I'm so glad it popped up again. Very nice!
I'm sure it will make an interesting walk, but when walking anywhere in a city like Paris there's always something to see. I'm looking forward to spending my days wandering somewhat aimlessly.

I wish I could do that.....wonder aimlessly. I plan so much ahead to make sure I get a large slice of the pizza and not feel I have spent my hundreds of euros not seeing and doing all that interests me in Paris. That's not to say I plan on aimless journeys, like to a park where we can sit for 2 hours watching the passing parade. Or, going down to watch the Tango dancers along Quai Bernard. That is amazingly relaxing but only if I have planned it that way.

Whatever works best for you, Tod, is the right thing to do. Except for the ten days my daughter will be with me, and a few days I've blocked out for friends, I have a long list of things I'd like to do. Will pick from the list depending on the weather, the tides, moon and the stars.

So the years go by and it was time to take my camera to the Promenade Plantée again. I go at least once a year, but I don't always take pictures.

Beautiful, love the photos of all the flora but the blossom trees are really lovely - Paris in springtime to a T. I was trying to work out what the photo is of - below where you talked about pollinators - I think its Rosemary -is that correct ?
