As much as the fashion writers and promoters try, you can't convince us there are 4 seasons like Europe and America. We seem to change from 'stinking hot' to 'bloody cold' with only a few days of 'just right' in between. Our native trees and smaller plants have become so confused trying to cope with the climate changing they are popping out flowers and seeds most of the year and are as exhausted as a working sole parent. The non- natives have applied to return to their birth country and no longer wish to seek refuge.
Travelling through Russia/Siberia/ Mongolia in June I saw the great banks of wildflowers in all colors and for the first time realised what 'seasons' really are.

The Canadian Prairies, like Siberia, also have extremes of heat and cold - I don't know if either is the classic four seasons though.

Georgia pharmacist John Stith Pemberton first brewed Coca-Cola syrup in his backyard on March 29, 1886. "Like many pharmacists of the period, Pemberton also made patent medicines, and he was always on the lookout for new recipes that would sell. He hit on Vin Mariani, a massively popular cocaine and wine beverage marketed by a Parisian chemist named Angelo Mariani. ...Pemberton brought the drink to America in the form of “Pemberton’s French Wine Coca.” The beverage might have been enjoyed in Atlanta the same way it was in Europe, but then in 1886, Fulton County in Atlanta went dry. So Pemberton concocted a recipe using coca leaves, kola nuts and sugar syrup." full story: www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/coca-colas-creator-said-drink-would-make-you-smarter-180962665/

The Eiffel Tower officially opened 129 years ago today on March 31, 1889. It has had 19 different paint jobs and was originally painted red. It will be painted anew this year. sourceThe success of the tower's opening in Paris inspired London to want a tower of its own. These are some of the designs submitted. sourceSomewhat less confusing account of what came to be known as the Watkin's Tower here.

MLK was only 39 when he died. That seemed SO old 50 years ago when I was 14.....

Same with me -- he wasn't quite middle aged but almost. I had lunch with a friend today who is in a bit of a state of shock because his youngest son turns 18 this week. Where did all of the time go? And I met him when he was 23, over the Minitel (pre internet French system) -- which means that I have been online for more than 30 years.

More on a personal note.
Wasn't sure where to post it.
Upon departing the dentist's office this morning after having my wisdom tooth extracted (with no complications, amen), high as a kite on nitrous oxide or whatever the gas was, I am departing the Dr.'s office with T. awaiting me in the car outside. What do I see, let alone HEAR, a f'n LEAFBLOWER immediately outside the entrance. T. said he debated warning the guy he had best cease and desist his "chore" if he valued his life.

Today is the beginning of the Cannes film festival, the first semi-finals of the Eurovision song contest, and the final of the Coupe de France football championship, wherein against all odds a tiny football club from the third division worked its way up to defy the PSG, one of the richest football clubs in the world. I don't need to say whom everybody will be rooting for, or at least hoping that Les Herbiers from Vendée will not lose 0-10. 20,000 people are coming to the Stade de France to support them even though the town itself only has a population of 16,000.
On top of that, today is a holiday in France, but for a different reason.

Bixa, if you as “helper” can modify the clickable link to be more descriptive of the contents, I wouldn’t mind!

Kimby, you can make any link as descriptive as you want when you make a link by clicking on the "link" icon. That's the one on the 'quick reply' or the 'reply' line with a little world globe and a page shown. However, I confess that I don't know if you can do it using just a phone, because I never use a phone to make links.
It gives you a line marked 'text' where you can type anything you want, and a second line where you enter the URL. The text that you type becomes the link.
Example:
Kerouac is overrated
